2022 Geek-A-Long: Pokémon Clue 5

Welcome to week 5 of the Gotta Catch ‘Em All socks: Pokémon Green!

We’re going into the third Pokémon sock, and I thought I’d be tired of them by now but I’m 100% not. I realize it’s not practical to knit infinite pokesocks, and we’ll stop at 4, but…well, I *know* it, but I don’t *feel* it. Right now, I feel like maybe I do need a whole drawer of them.

Pokémon Green was one of the 2 original games released in Japan, but the Western release opened with Red and Blue. For many enthusiastic Pokémon trainers, Leaf Green didn’t grace the cartridges of our Game Boy Advances until 2004. A full 8 years after the 1996 release of Red and Blue, Leaf Green and Fire Red managed to hold on to all the magic of the original games, now enhanced with better graphics and the improved power of handheld consoles. The early aughts were a middle-school-gamer’s paradise. Gameboys were affordable, and I remember feeling like every time I turned around they had a shiny new version coming out. Even now, as a nearly 40 year old woman, with access to Playstations and Switches, I still dust off my Nintendo DS every now and then. No amount of advanced tech will ever compare with the satisfaction of blowing on a cartridge and popping it into a device that’s been riding around in your pocket all day.

In addition to the first part of Pokemon Green, today you can download the full pattern version of Pokemon Red. If you’re just joining us, you can catch up with Pokémon Blue HERE.

View Pokémon: Clue 5 by clicking the button below. When you download the pattern from our website instead of through Ravelry, you will NOT receive automatic updates. You will have to come here and download the next clue every time. Please download it via Raverly if you are able, so you have immediate access to the clues as they are released and any errata that may appear.
