2021 Geek-A-Long Sweater: Clue 11

The autumn equinox is 24 days away, but Philadelphia has not gotten the memo that summer is supposed to be winding down. It’s been 90+ degrees most days, and the storms have been relentless. Despite all this, I am 100% in the mood for Fall. I’ve always loved fall, and after nearly 2 years of pandemic I have never been more excited to put on a sweater and go pick some apples.

The other day Jac showed up to the studio in full Fall regalia, and when I asked if she was dying of heat stroke and why didn’t she wear short sleeves (guys, it was 97F that day!) she told me “When I got dressed this morning I forgot that I can’t control the weather.” Honestly, that was the most relatable thing. I have 2 sweater WIPs sitting next to me as I write this, and have a standing policy of celebrating Fall on September first with utter disregard of the actual weather. So, for those of you knitting the On Board sweater along with me this year, I know that this jacket is crazy heavy and it’s been a HOT summer for the bulkiest of knitting, but fall is almost here, and just think how cozy you’ll be once it starts to get cold out. I am pretty sure that if we all agree to wake up on September 1st and refuse to accept the premise that it’s still hot out, but our powers combined we probably could control the weather.

This is the first clue where I feel like the overall aesthetic of the sweater is revealed. We’re far enough into the body that you can see the overall “vibe” of On Board. Related: Next week marks the 1/2 way point! I cannot believe we are almost 12 weeks in, but we are just 5 weeks away from starting the yoke!

This way to Geek-A-Long glory!

This week’s clue is fairly relaxed in terms of techniques. For this clue, I worked the blue and yellow areas on the Sorry! emblem with duplicate stitch (duplicating the colors on both sides of the work). For the lettering I went with regular double knitting and didn’t bother with reversing the word on the wrong side. It looked nice on both sides even without the lettering worked to read correctly on the back.

I’m low-key obsessed with the Meeples. I actually wasn’t going to include them, but when Mr. Llama was looking at my concept sketches way back when, he felt passionate that Meeples needed a place on the sweater. He was right.
