2021 Geek-A-Long Sweater: Clue 8

It’s Clue 8 is coming to you on 8-8 and that sounds like fate to me. This sweater was destined to be.

This week we are getting into the main portion of the sweater, and the pattern established in this clue will remain intact through clue 16. Each of these body sections will be made up of 3 charts: A, B, & C. On Right Side rows you will work the charts in the order A-B-C, reading the charts from right to left. On Wrong Side rows you will work the charts in the order C-B-A, reading the charts from left to right.

Clue 8 includes detailed instructions for reading the charts. Clues 9-16 will just include the charts, and you will follow the instructions in clue 8 for each of them.

This clue ups the challenge rating with a larger section of a 3rd color. To execute the blue “Go To Jail” square on the monopoly board I worked the blue background using intarsia. I joined a ball of blue after working to the first marker, and dropped MC (white). I worked across that 40 stitch section with Blue and CC (black). At the 3rd marker where you will be instructed to work a 16 stitch repeat to the 4th marker, I dropped the blue and joined a second ball of MC. I worked with MC and CC to the end of the row. On the next row I worked with MC and CC until I reached the marker where I had dropped the blue yarn. It’s very important to twist the color you’re about to drop together with the color you’ll be picking up before dropping MC and proceeding with blue and CC to the next marker. I worked the lettering with duplicate stitch in blue on the back and in black on the front. This section also features a red line on chart C, which I worked in duplicate stitch. It’s not pictured here because I didn’t work it until after finishing the next clue.

The red circle shows the seam created by intarsia where I’ve twisted 2 colors together before dropping one of them to proceed with the other. The seam doesn’t bother me, but if it bothers you, the blue could be worked in duplicate stitch instead, or worked in 3-color double knitting with MC carried along with the blue and black, or you could just work the whole thing in black and white.

I almost put “F8” at the top of this post, but decided the pun was unforgivable, even for me. I like to keep my linguistic sins beneath the fold.
