The January Round-Up

It’s been a crazy month for us here at Lattes & Llamas. When we released the first pattern for the Geek-A-Long (GAL), we never imagined that in one short month we would have other bloggers talking about it and over 160 members in the Ravelry GAL group. We just wanted to have fun, stashbust some Cascade Yarn, and raise awareness for Child’s Play along the way. It turns out that a lot of other people were into our goals as well!

And for good reason too! Child’s Play is a wonderful charity, which provides video games and toys to children in hospitals and domestic abuse shelters. Through the use of video games, doctors and nurses are able to entertain, distract, and interact with kids through the power of play. But, don’t just take my word for it. Here is a short(ish) video made by Child’s Play to show you the benefits of their cause first hand.

Excuse me, I think I have something in my eye…

As the first month of the GAL comes to a close, we would like to celebrate the participants by sharing their completed squares with you. Despite who they are making their blankets for, they are knitting away and raising awareness just by doing so.

Suzy’s Caffeine Molecule. You can find her blog here or on Ravelry here.
Cindy O’s Caffeine Molecule. Isn’t the variegation awesome? You can find her on Ravelry here and her blog here.
Stephanie’s Caffeine Molecule. You can find her on Ravelry here.
Bobbi’s Caffeine Molecule. You can find her on Ravelry here.
Stephanie’s Triforce. You can find more of her FOs here.
Cindy O’s Sherlock. You can find more of her FOs here.

I love seeing all the different color choices people have made, especially for the Caffeine Molecule where there are no “standard colors” like we’ll see with Superman and some of the later squares. Well done everyone and thank you for participating in the 2014 Geek-A-Long! Megan-Anne and I look forward to seeing more of your awesomeness.

Keep knitting and spreading the word about the Child’s Play charity.
