Welcome to Clue 1 of the Legend of Zelda! This week we are unlocking the mysteries of life (or at least of loot filled dungeons) with BOSS KEYS. I spent a good amount of my week trying to think of something to tell you about Zelda that I haven’t already said. Zelda and her various legends are some of our all time favorite games, but this is the 4th GAL they’ve appeared on and I’m running low on pithy content. So to shake things up, this week I called in a ringer, and asked Mr. Llama to tell you a little bit about Zelda.
He responded by sending me a whole book’s worth of prose about games that are like Zelda, but not actually Zelda. I was annoyed by that for a minute, but actually he’s not wrong. Phoenix Rising is so Zelda like I actually did once ask what Zelda game it was when I passed by him playing it. And since this is my blog and I get to make the rules I have decided to spend this week and next letting Kevin tell you how much he loves two games that are not actually Zelda, but will remind you of playing Zelda.
Take care, and I’ll see you next week!
I was never into the original NES Zelda as a kid. I got lost and wandered around the desert forever in circles because I didn’t have the issue of Nintendo Power that showed you how to get through it. But I loved Link in cartoons and even had a board game that was aproximately as easy to figure out as that desert was.
I didn’t hook in to Zelda until Breath of the Wild. It’s amazing. If you haven’t played it, it’s worth the time. Or watch someone else play it while you knit, like we do in this house. But I know that’s been talked about plenty so I want to tell you about two of my favorite Legend of Zelda inspired games.
Immortals: Phoenix Rising is Breath of the Wild but with Greek gods and your weapons don’t break. I loved this game. I loved riding around on a unicorn and smashing harpies and cyclops with a battle axe while Prometheus ragged on Zeus for being,…well…Zeus. You eventually get gliding wings and explore a whole continent full of enemies, challenges, and collectables. The game is on all the consoles and PC. It’s often pretty cheap, too. So if you don’t know what to do this week go smash a Harpie. You won’t regret it.

Zelda on the Year 1 GAL. Zelda on the Year 3 GAL. Zelda on the Year 5 GAL. And just incase that wasn’t enough, we also made these other Zelda socks. Not sorry.
