Happy Valentine’s Day, and a belated Merry Galentine’s Day to you all!
Side Note: Galentine’s Day is honored on February 13th, the day before that other made-up holiday. It sprouted from an episode of Parks and Rec, but I like the message of ladies celebrating ladies. However, it’s also a really great opportunity to appreciate ALL of your friendships, no matter their gender. So, Happy PALentine’s Day too!
My husband and I don’t exchange gifts on our anniversary or on Valentine’s Day. We never have. It sprouted from the fact that there was a point early in our relationship where neither of us could afford much, and we picked a nice dinner out together instead of stuff. Now, we’re just really into getting gussied up for an extremely fancy four-course meals. Of course, we can’t do that during the pandemic. We’ll be having a lovely homecooked meal tonight and will celebrate our love by playing a co-op video game together for the better part of the day.
We’re really into the game Don’t Starve Together by Klei Entertainment on Steam. Check it out if just for the neat art style and the cute animated shorts they’ve put out for each of the characters.
For the first time this year, I actually made him a Valentine’s Day gift. I’m turning his favorite handwarmers, The Pact, into a double knit cowl. Knitting it without him finding out was really hard. I was able to post progress pics on Instagram since he isn’t one for social media, but now that I’ve given it to him, I can show it to you. He loved it and I’m really excited to release the pattern soon.
Anyway, all of this rambling is to say that I have a video game that needs to be played to today, so I didn’t have time this morning (or yesterday since I did last weeks post then) to revamp a 2015 Geek-A-Long square. Today, I updated the GAL pattern of my first love, Nightwing. Well, Dick Grayson to be specific.
“Jac and I joked about both of us writing this post, not necessarily since it’s the last Geek-A-Long square of 2017, but due to the fact that both of us have a deep and undying love for Dick Grayson. We’ve always been big Batman fans but there was something about Chris O’Donnell in the 1995 movie Batman Forever that made eleven-year-old me blossom into a woman. It’s probably the nipples on the suit that did it. I don’t know who in costuming said, ‘Give me more Bat-Nipples!’ But I applaud their life choices.”
~ Megan-Anne, week 48 of the 2017 Geek-A-Long
Sultry bat-nips aside, Megan-Anne does actually talk about Dick Grayson’s evolution from an orphaned child to Batman’s first Robin to Nightwing. She also discusses how Batman capitalized on Dick’s rage and hurt over the murder of his parents, and it’s worth a read if you’re unfamiliar Dick Grayson’s story. You can read her original blog post by clicking this link. That post also contains a preview of the Geek-A-Long pattern and a download button like the one below for you to snag the pattern for yourself.
I’ll be back next week with a revamped 2015 GAL square.

“Try to understand our position here, Batman. You began training to be a hero as a young adult. For me and a lot of the other Titans — like Vic — that training shaped and influenced most of our childhood. Unlike the JLA, the Titans aren’t just about a promise to the world — it’s also about a promise to each other… to ourselves. We swore on our childhood nightmares that we’d be there for one another. If I don’t honor that I don’t honor who I am.” – Dick Grayson as Nightwing, JLA/Titans # 2, 1998
