2017 Geek-A-Long: Gambit

I love Ultimate X-Men. And I’m not remotely embarrassed to tell you that I was pretty sure Gambit and I were meant to be together. I am surrounded by non-believers though, and my husband is the worst of them all.

Whatevs, Kevin. The people have spoken! Maybe Gambit’s hair isn’t the best, but no one can resist a bad boy with master thief skills or a New Orleans man with the slick mutant ability to transform the potential energy contained within playing cards into kinetic energy. Basically, he has 52 explosives in his pocket and he looks awesome using them.

CadburyChessypoof nominated Gambit to the Fight for Your Fandom Leaderboards saying:

I loved the xmen cartoon, so I nominate Gambit. I had large crush on him when I was 10. also he wore fingerless gloves, so clearly he appreciated knitting.

Mmmmm, Girl. Right?! Fingerless gloves, card tricks, and bad boy charm. I’m on board.

On an X-Men note, have you guys listened to Jay and Miles Xplain the Xmen? It’s addictive and strangely relaxing to listen to. If you’re looking for one to start with, you may as well be on theme and check out this one. It talks about Gambit vs. Deadpool. Also, X-Men Evolution is on Hulu and Amazon. I think it’s one of the best animated superhero shows that’s been done. It’s in the top three with Young Justice and Teen Titans taking the first two spots. Go watch it, it’s so good!

Whether you’re knitting, crocheting, or cross stitching this square, you can download the Gambit pattern here, featuring the aces up his sleeve. Instructions and charts for both knit and crochet are listed in the pattern. When you’re finished making it, don’t forget to Instagram your squares at us @lattesandllamasyarn with the hashtag #geekalong!

If you’re having trouble with double-sided knitting, we have a how-to video here and a tutorial on crochet here. Want to hang out with other people making the blanket? You can find moral support in the Geek-A-Long group on Ravelry here.
