Toes on Dope

Toes on Dope Knitting Pattern

Jacquline and I found this gorgeous yarn, Happy Feet by Plymouth Yarn, at our local yarn store. We were both immediately drawn to the colorway and sheen. After rubbing a few skeins all over our faces like creepers, we looked at each other and said: Valentine’s Day socks.

I wanted to design something special for Love Day, but without all the pink frilly hearts the day is known for.  Rather than a saccharine sweet heart motif, I chose the 2 chemicals of love for my socks: Serotonin and Dopamine.

Toes on Dope feature 2 beaded charts: on the first sock the Dopamine molecule, and on the second sock a Serotonin molecule.  If you’ve never embellished a knitted piece with beads it can seem intimidating, but it’s really quite easy!  These beads are added as you work them, no need to string them on in advance.

Valentines Day Socks 2

valentines day sock pattern

No matter whether you want to wear your heart on your sleeve or crush it under your heel, these socks are for you! As you can see in the picture to the left, they’re really cute with flats and tights. Here I am rocking them at the bookstore while searching for a gift for Mr. Llama.

The socks are worked toe up with a short row toe and heel. In the pattern, I use a provisional cast on and if you’re unfamiliar with the technique here is a short video that will walk you through it.

The technique used for these is actually really simple. You basically just pick up a bead with a very thin crochet hook, slip it onto the stitch and knit the stitch. I’m not a fan of stringing beads onto the yarn in advance so that’s a really easy work around. You can totally do it :)

The yarn sounds great and the socks look fabulous! I love that there are two different beaded patterns with one for each sock. Your PS cracked me up too. Thanks for the coupon code!
