Tiny Ball of Knitshame

I ran into the idea of knitshaming on Kelly Without a Net while wandering the internet. It’s kind of like dog shaming, but for knitters. This Monday’s knitshaming happened over the weekend.

After brunch Sunday morning, Megan and I emptied all of our Cascade 220 onto her living room floor to sort through for Geek-A-Long. (You can catch a glimpse of the week 2 square in the bottom left hand corner.) During this process, we quickly discovered a surplus of tiny yarn balls. As is protocol, none of them were the same color or usable for our project.

Did we come to terms with how we would never use them and hold a brief funeral for them before tossing them in the trash? Absolutely not! We kept them with our Geek-A-Long project yarn, convinced we would find a way to used them.

SHAAAAAAAME.

You don’t know, I might use it.

I have an enormous container full of these. I keep telling myself that I’m going to fill a shadowbox frame with them and hang it on the wall in my workspace. Just so I don’t have to throw them away.

    Yes. I have a problem.

It’s okay, rosemarypipes. You’re in a safe place. And that’s a really cute idea!

But, I see your problem. Now you’ve added: remember to get shadow box, put things in shadow box, and hang the dang thing to your to-do list. A knitter’s work is never done.

I JUST threw mine away this morning because it had gotten ridiculous. To be fair, some of them were half a skein but still, WHAT WAS I GOING TO DO WITH IT. I am a horder, so if I can do it, anyone can do it ;)

    Hey guys,
there are many many leftover / scrap patterns over on rav, i.e. for verypink’s log cabin blanket you need only 20-30 yards of one colour, which is not much! there are also scarfs, socks etc. you can find whole groups who discuss and show their scrap-using projects!
tiny leftover balls may still be enough for a pair of baby booties or a babies cap, and if you don’t have children and neither do one of your friends and loved ones, you can still donate them to any local shelter or whatever, those things are always needed!
Just a quick vote for everybody who doesn’t want to keep them, but hates throwing away, either.

I just found you guys, and this is ridiculous late, but I’ve been making felted bangles and those would easily be enough for a bracelet or decorative wrapping. Another option would be knit or crocheted flower pins/embellishments.
