Twinkle, Trunk Show, Sock Knitter, Spy

Man, it has been a crazy and busy few weeks! I’m deep in the trenches of Christmas knitting, and I’m probably not going to make it on all my projects, especially since I have one million things to do before we attend VK Live in NYC this January. I have a massive blanket and a long infinity scarf that will be finished, but I can’t show off pics yet since I’m not really sure how much of my family reads this.

I also have a really special project I’ve been working…

SOCK Club: Psych

With Megan-Anne and I gearing up to mail out the next installment of the Society of Caffeinated Knitters (SOCK Club) at the end of October — I’m in love with the Pie stitch marker, but you didn’t hear that from me — we thought it was time to reveal the theme we had chosen for August. PSYCH!

No, seriously. I’m not pulling your leg. That was the theme.

If you’re…

Conquering Christmas Knitting Part 2

Howdy, knitters and crocheters! Are you ready to get serious about finishing those Christmas gifts in time to actually give them to their recipients instead of a card with a sad IOU in it? If you answered yes, this post is for you. Today, I’m going to talk about the importance of making time for “selfish” knitting instead of spending the next 100 days focused on everyone, who isn’t you.

If you answered with a terrified enghh sound and are freaking out that there are exactly 100 days left until Christmas and 88 until the first day of Hanukkah, I need you…

Prize Winners and the Pebble Skipping Hat

As I type this, Megan-Anne and I are in a hotel in Pittsburgh. It’s the night before our trunk show at Knit One. There are trays of half eaten take out scattered over our beds along with a healthy dose of WIPs. Megan-Anne is working on another pair of Shining Sequence Mittens in different colorways to show you what they’d look like with duplicate stitch instead of beads and I’m racing to finish my latest amigurumi creation for the Summer of Crochet so I can work on Jessica Gore’s new…

Dabberlock Pashmina

Dear Crochet,

I know it’s been a while since we’ve spent time together. We survived long winter nights by making gloves and hats for my family. We counted down the days until autumn together, creating washcloths and amigurumi, while we dreamed of blankets and a plethora of cozies to keep my caffeinated drinks warm. I’m writing to you today to tell you that those times mean a lot to me, even though we grew apart as I spent more time with my new friends, Knitting and Cross…

Homespun Yarn Party 2017

No joke, the Homespun Yarn Party is our favorite show of the year. Some people live for Rhinebeck, Vogue Knitting Live, or Maryland Sheep and Wool, which are all great events, but for us it’s the HYP. Held at the Historic Savage Mill in Maryland, which is great place to peruse even when it isn’t teeming with knitters and yarn, the HYP has an electric energy. Everyone is so excited to share their love of knitting, crochet, and spinning. Plus, the entry fee is free and so are the classes!

This year there was a line to get…

Nixon was a sweating, filthy, liar, but he was right about one thing: Sock it to me! OK, to be fair, he seems somewhat apprehensive about the socking, but that’s just because he probably didn’t have any super comfy hand knit socks. Luckily, you and I don’t have that kind of problem. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the first annual Lattes & Llamas Socktober!

It’s Socktober, stiches!

You get a sock! And you get a sock!! And you get a sock!!!

There are 84 knitting days left until Christmas and I’ve basically…

Creature of (pattern) habit

Guys. Guys. Guysguysguysguysguysguysguysguysguys. Have you seen Melanie Berg’s shawls? Oh? You have? Well I guess you haven’t been living under a tastefully yarn-bombed rock like me. Have you actually made one though? ‘Cause until 3 weeks ago, I hadn’t. I’m a creature of habit in the worst kind of way when it comes to yarney-goodness. On the one hand, I miss out on stuff sometimes, because I suck at trying new things. On the other hand though, when I like something I go all in fangirl style. And right now, I am cosplaying as Melanie Berg.

In all…

Hit Refresh

When people think about renewal they picture spring showers, sprouting daffodils, and fresh green grass. Generally, everything associated with Spring or maybe even the restart of the New Year. For me, it’s that start of the summer knitting season. It’s a time to put aside knitting or crocheting heavy blankets and sweaters in favor of smaller, lighter projects. Socks mostly, if you’re me. And I end up spending the majority of summer thinking about what I’ll make during the other three seasons. I even start making promises to myself as if it were January first:

I will finally knit a…

Hello From the Other Side

It’s been a while since I’ve written a blog post. Well, not counting the Geek-A-Long. That monster runs like a well oiled machine. But, I feel like we never talk anymore, you know? Probably because Lattes & Llamas has been on semi-maternity leave since Megan-Anne gave birth to our newest employee at the end of January.

Mabel is doing great, by the way. Megan-Anne swears she’s going to tell you all about her sweet little nugget next week and all the stuff she’s knitted for her, so keep an eye out for it. There will be SO MANY cardigans.

Anyway, it…
