Once upon a time, all the way back in 2000 and late, Megan-Anne and Jac lived in a world of knitted scarves and crocheted granny square blankets made of acrylic yarn. It was a sad and scratchy time full of snapped plastic hooks and needles. Regardless of the minuscule wool percentage in their yarn, they delved into design. In 2009, the sisters moved from Indiana to Pennsylvania for Megan-Anne to attend school, and inadvertently changed the course of their lives when they stepped foot inside their first local yarn store. They were exposed to a whole new world of softer and more colorful fibers. They opened Knerdy Knits, an Etsy store that sold one-of-a-kind geeky knitted and crocheted items. However, as Megan-Anne finished her postbac in late 2013, they decided to take things in a different direction and formed Lattes & Llamas. They began selling their nerdy and classic literature inspired patterns to other knitters and crocheters and founded the Geek-A-Long.

Born from a highly under-caffeinated trip to Starbucks and what could be described as a lost bet, the Geek-A-Long exploded from a grassroots project to raise awareness for Child’s Play Charity to a worldwide knitting sensation. With participants on every continent and a lively Ravelry group, the Geek-A-Long grows every day and appeals to both experienced knitters and bright-eyed newbies ready to buy their first pair of needles. Through videos and picture tutorials, Megan-Anne and Jac enjoy taking fiber-virgins from making their first slip knot to doing advanced techniques such as double-sided knitting or turning a heel.

As the Geek-A-Long grew and the sisters became increasingly more interested in the science behind yarn, they started to experiment with dyes and discovered that they found their calling in life. In June of 2015, Lattes & Llamas launched their yarn line with Vacation Yarn, a Superwash Merino sock yarn meant to transport your away from the humdrum of your life to knit colorful socks. Since then, they’ve added a variety of weights, fibers, and colorways. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

You can follow Lattes & Llamas on Instagram and Pinterest or connect with them in their Ravelry group.

The Lattes & Llamas Family

Megan-Anne, Knitting Doctor and Queen of Dyes

Megan-Anne is a knitwear designer, former social worker, and unapologetic nerd, who gave up med school to pursue her yarny dreams. When Megan-Anne isn’t chasing her daughter around the studio, she is designing new patterns for Lattes & Llamas’s online store or hand-dying Lattes & Llamas Yarn. Megan-Anne was a top ten finalist in Vogue Knitting’s 2012 design contest. You can also find Megan-Anne on Twitter, Instagram, and Ravelry.

Jac, Operations Mastermind

Jac is a writer, reader, crocheter, and dirty sock cleaner, who answers to Jacquline, Jac-Attack the Barbarian, Dr. Cappuccino, and ‘hey you’. When she isn’t working on her new novel or hiding all the candy like a squirrel, she is crocheting or dreaming up new variegated colorways. Jacquline has an unhealthy love of office supplies and her patterns are available in the Lattes & Llamas store. You can also find Jac on Instagram, Ravelry, Twitter, and Pinterest.

Alena, Lab Assistant and Doodler

When Alena isn’t mixing dyes in the L&L lab, she’s reading, working on her first novel, or painting. Alena loves video games, especially Mass Effect and Zelda. You can find her on Instagram.

Mabel the Merciless, Unpaid Intern

Destroyer of worlds, yarn sniffer, model, and hot cocoa addict. You can find Mabel running through the office screeching like a weasel and trying to horde all the yarn for herself despite the fact that she doesn’t know how to knit or crochet yet. If she weren’t such an adorable toddler, we’d swear she was a hobgoblin. #mabelthemerciless

Also, since it’s a bizarrely common question: No, Megan-Anne and Jac are not twins. Yes, people ask them all the time. No, they don’t see it either.
