4/20/2018-Anchors down in Loch Ness: The final clue, Clue 4, will be released on Ravelry.

The first clue has been released and you can purchase it by clicking the “buy it now” link:

The pattern is available for 25% off this weekend only! No coupon code is needed and the discount will apply automatically at checkout. If you already purchased a Nessie Expedition Kit, you do NOT need to purchase the pattern. It is included in your kit and should be arriving in your inboxes this afternoon.

It’s up to you to snag a money shot of Nessie from the deck of the U.S.S. Sock Knitter, but even if you don’t get the perfect photo-proof that doesn’t mean you’ll go away empty handed. Fabulous Nessie socks are a pretty fantastic prize in and of themselves, but Jac and I want to sweeten the pot even more! We’re going to raffle off a skein of our favorite BFL sock yarn, Adventure Yarn, to one lucky member of the Nessie Expedition.

To be entered in the raffle, all you need to do is post a photo of at least one finished Nessie Expedition sock on the official Nessie Expedition Ravelry Thread by May 2nd at 11:59PM EST. Just to be clear, you do not need to finish the MKAL on time to enter, but you do need to have made one of the socks and post a photo of it by the end of the day 5/2/2108. That’s a week and a half after the last clue releases on Ravelry.

Meet The Crew of the U.S.S. Sock Knitter

Captain Columba-This surly sea captain has been trying to prove he really did see and rebuke Nessie for over 1400 years! Death has raised its icy scythe to him dozens of times throughout the years, but every time he tells it to, “be gone!” Death, like the beast of Loch Ness, obeyed. You might be thinking that it’s time for this captain to hang up his sails and retire, but rest assured travelers, he doesn’t look a day over 894.

First Mate George Spicer-George and his wife, Mrs. Spicer first met Nessie on dry land. They were having a regular day, driving home after a lovely afternoon of lunching on Haggis and shopping for yarn when Nessie crossed the road in front of them!

Ship’s Head Knitter Mrs. Spicer-As the world’s leading authority on Loch Ness monster based knitting projects, Mrs. Spicer is a credit to any crew. She firs met Nessie when she found the road blocked by the Plesiosaur’s slow ambling waddle back into the Lake at Loch Ness. Mr. Spicer was too distracted fumbling for his camera, but Mrs. Spicer clearly saw that Nessie had come on land to procure some nice warm sweaters for her babies! Since then, she has devoted her life to knitting Nessie sized scarves and fin covers, tossing them in the lake when Mr. Spicer and Captain Columba take to the water on the U.S.S. Sock Knitter.

Over the next four weeks Mrs. Spicer is sharing her brand new Nessie socks with you! Each week you’ll learn more about the crew of the U.S.S. Sock Knitter and the Scottish Highlands that Nessie calls home, gain one more piece of your pattern, and get one step closer to finally getting that indisputable photo of the Loch Ness Monster.

If you ordered a kit by Sunday, 3/25, it was shipped priority mail on or before 3/28/2018 and should be arriving at your door any minute. If you ordered after that cut off, kits are still going out quickly, so keep an eye on the mailbox!

As we’ve been gearing up for this MKAL, I’ve released tutorials on all the skills you’ll need for a stress free and fun, color work project. Check out the tips and tricks for  the Twisted German Cast On, fair isles yarn management and perfect gauge swatches.

Make sure and show off your projects in the Nessie Expedition Ravelry Thread, and if you share them on Instagram or twitter tag me at @Doctor_llama so I can revel in your glory! Use #NessieEpedition and #LandLMKAL so that everyone knitting along and lurking can see your work too.

“And, oh yes, I did see Nessie! But that was much later on after a late evening that involved several pints and more than my share of Scapa Flow whisky. Nice girl. Pretty face. Longish neck. Not much in the leg department.” -Ian MacGregger, the Toast of Broadway

Woot! I am excited to get my kit and cast on! Also… I can’t promise a finished pair by the start of May, so thank you for allowing us to participate in the raffle with just one finished sock. I think I can manage that. :-)
