Burn It Down – Sock 1: Burn TERFs Not Witches

Greetings, my fellow knitters of righteous rage. The Goddesses have bestowed a gift upon us all. Actually, scratch that. They have bestowed a gift upon those of us that are worthy of such things. TERFs get nothing, both from me and from the Powers That Be.

You may be asking yourself if I was making a subtle jab at Just-Kidding-Rowling with these. Honestly, I didn’t think it was that subtle, but here we are. My original concept for these was actually a sweater that said “Just try to burn this witch”. But when I was telling someone about it they got really weird and asked if I’m still into JK’s work after everything and I was so confused. It turns out she started making slogan merch that said “This witch won’t burn” after she was cancelled and I was LIVID. That slogan slaps and it’s absolute bullshit that she gets to use it! I haven’t kept up with any of her stuff, so I didn’t know about it, but the one thing I know for sure is she didn’t write the slogan because it’s actually very good. 24 hours later I rage designed these socks.

These socks are dedicated to all the incredible girls, gays, and theys in the Geek-A-Long family and anyone who just wants to go through life being their spectacular selves. But specifically not TERFs. They can go back to pouting in whatever puddle of primordial ooze they crawled out of.

The Burn It Down Socks are worked in the round from the cuff down. The leg pattern is worked off-center on the back of the leg, and after placing stitches for an afterthought heel you will continue to work off center down the foot. The heel is worked by picking up live sts from a waste yarn holder after completing the colorwork foot. You can find tutorials on everything you’ll need to make your very own patriarchy hexing socks on our YouTube Channel.

I’ll see you back here next weekend to talk about bigots who ban books from schools because that’s the apocalyptic horror show the USA is living in!

Thank you so much for these socks. I’m making them for my nibling whose mother (my stupid sister) is very unwelcoming to their transgender declaration. I know they will love these socks, so…again thank you!

Sorry you had to rage modify the design in 24 hrs, I appreciate all the hard work you put into it. I am including a small tangent rant as your post does the issues far more justice than I can.

Wow. I wasn’t aware Rowling had used the “Witch’s/Pagan’s” motto (in quotes as not all witches are Pagan and vis versa, though I identify as both) and forgot all about her. Funnily enough Rowling identifies as Christian, not a witch, so does it still apply? Also, how did she become the representative of Witches/Pagans? Sadly, the pagan symbol (the Pentacle) is now associated with her and, indirectly, hate/discrimination when it isn’t accurate. Seriously, why do people have to make life harder for others (anyone who doesn’t fit their definition of normal) just because they (generic) can? I’ve had discussions with two different people about trans/non-binary issues and couldn’t believe the fear/hate in the first. The second had me looking up the definition of ‘femininity.’ Basically, the 1950s stereotypical depiction of a woman. I had to laugh as she doesn’t fit the definition either.

I’ll end this stream of thought here as I have multiple interconnected rants that would (probably) make you proud and very fitting for this particular pattern. Now to breakout my swift and winder so I can start.

Some of the books on the Banned Books list (aka: Read These Books list) I had to read in school or by my own choice. Can’t wait to see your next update.
