Before you scroll down to look at the back of sock 2 and/or to grab your pattern, I’ve got a little house keeping to do.

Keen observers will notice that last Sunday I was supposed to talk about the inspiration behind the Untitled Goose Socks, the cozy video game by House House called Untitled Goose Game. I should have written and scheduled the post ahead of time as it coincided with my dad’s birthday. He’s been gone for nearly eleven years now, and I didn’t expect his birthday to hit me so hard this year. Ironically, I spent most of last weekend dealing with my feelings by playing cozy video games with my family to cope.

Which brings me to the feathery, menace to society that got many people through 2020…

UNTITLED GOOSE GAME by House House

Untitled Goose Game is a puzzle game that took the world by storm during the winter of 2019 and helped many people cope during the beginning of the pandemic (me included) with its cozy vibes. This is a family friendly game where you play as a goose who is on a mission to wreak havoc on a small English village. (Eventually, House House released a two-player mode for the game at the end of 2020, which was *chef’s kiss*.) While you conquer your “to list” by doing tasks like tricking humans into doing specific things or stealing certain objects, you can up the antic-ante by honking and flapping your wings to disturb the idyllic village’s peace.

I mean, who wouldn’t take insidious joy out of solving puzzles while watching humans get outsmarted by a goose?

For the socks, I wanted to keep the design simpler than I have in the past. I felt as if it should be a bit more accessible, just like the game. The bells at the toe represent one of the last big items on your to-do list in the game. The knives on the back of the second leg, however, came from a single item on your task list, which quickly became an internet meme: PEACE WAS NEVER AN OPTION.

You’ll notice that the goose is off centered for sizes 2, 3, and 4. That’s on purpose. The goose would NEVER deign to follow convention. The writing on sock 2, however, is centered. I might enjoy chaos, but I’m not a monster.

UNTITLED GOOSE SOCKS

View Untitled Goose Socks: Clue 2 by clicking the download button below. When you download the pattern from our website instead of through Ravelry here, you will NOT receive automatic updates. You will have to come here and download the next clue every time. Please download it via Ravelry if you are able, so you have immediate access to the clues as they are released and any errata that may appear.

Next week, I’ll be back with some modeled shots of the socks, and I’ll be updating Ravelry with an all-in-one version of the pattern for latecomers. I’d also love to feature your progress pics or final sock photos then too, so don’t forget to @ me on Instagram and use the #untitledgoosesocks hashtag. You can find me on Instagram here.
