Blaze a Swathe Socks

Blaze a Swathe Socks are my current go-to on-the-go pattern. I like to keep my hands busy during our D&D games, and this is how I do it. My colorwork projects are just too involved to bring with me to games. There is barely enough room for our snacks and my horde of dice, let alone a pattern holder. My favorite thing about these socks, however, is the short leg, which makes them perfect for spring and summer. I’ve been slowly swapping out all of my store bought socks* with hand knitted ones, and having shorties is more conducive to warm weather. The color changes also make it possible to use up leftover balls of sock weight yarn or have fun with Mini Skein Sets, which is a must for me.

*Soon, I’ll only need white, store bought socks for exercise!

Blaze a Swathe Socks are worked in the round from the cuff down and feature a classic heel flap and gusset. These low-cut crew socks are designed for you to have fun with mini-skeins or stash bust those leftover balls of sock weight yarn.

Needles:

US1 / 2.25 mm 40” circular needles to work in Magic Loop or size needed to obtain gauge.

I prefer the Magic Loop method when knitting socks. If you are more comfortable using DPNs or two circulars, this pattern is easily converted.

Sizing:

Size 1 (2, 3, 4) has a 7 (8, 9, 10)” / 17.75 (20.25, 22.75, 25.5) cm foot circumference, unstretched.

Leg length from to Cuff to Start of Heel: 3” / 7.5 cm

Foot Length: Adjustable

Happy Knitting, ya’ll!

Now that I’ve finished Blaze a Swathe Socks for Mabel the Merciless, I might cast on a pair for my husband, using only three colors.
