Geek-A-Long 2022: Pokémon

I would like to begin this post by saying that the green yarn (“Evergreen Moonbeam”) refused to be photographed by mortal technology. It is not light blue as pictured below.

[Colorways pictured from left to right: Baskerville, Marigold (a limited edition colorway made for this kit), Garnet, Stars Hollow, and Evergreen Moonbeam.]

When I named Evergreen Moonbeam, I had no idea it would be as ethereal as the moon, but here we are. Much like the string of technical difficulties we’ve experienced over the past few days, I’m over it. So you’ll just have to trust me. It’s supposed to look like more this:

POKEMON

The Pokémon Socks are a glorious celebration of choosing your starter Pokémon with Professor Oak and heading out to collect ’em all! This time we’ll be knitting FOUR socks, equaling two mix-and-match pairs of Pokémon Socks. The kick-off party begins this weekend when we’ll release the project sheet, complete with instructions for a coffee-cozy gauge swatch and all that other stuff you need to know like yarn requirements and such. After that, the eight clues for the socks will release as follows:

  1. July 24, 2022: Clue 1 of 8
  2. July 31, 2022: Clue 2 of 8
  3. August 7, 2022: Clue 3 of 8
  4. August 14, 2022: Clue 4 of 8
  5. August 21, 2022: Clue 5 of 8
  6. August 28, 2022: Clue 6 of 8
  7. September 4, 2022: Clue 7 of 8
  8. September 11, 2022: Clue 8 of 8

So, are you ready to adventure across the Kanto Region and knit the Pokémon Socks? First you’ll need to swing by Professor Oak’s Lab in Pallet Town to get yourself a Pokémon Kit!

Available with limited quantities, each Year of the Sock: Pokémon Kit contains four beautiful 50 gram skeins of Lattes & Llamas’ Vacation base in “Garnet,” “Stars Hollow,” “Marigold,” and “Evergreen Moonbeam” and one 100 gram skein in “Baskerville.” That’s enough hand-dyed yarn for you to knit four Pokémon Socks, equaling two mix-and-match pairs! The kit also comes with a zippered tote for your project and a set of stitch markers, hand-crafted by Megan-Anne.

As always, you can purchase the yarn from our shop as normal with the exception of Marigold. Megan-Anne created the yellow especially for this design. We still haven’t decided if we’re going to officially add Marigold to Vacation’s palette or if it’s going to be limited edition. Either way, there are a few listed in stock alongside Garnet, Evergreen Moonbeam, Stars Hollow, and Baskerville. Of course, if you purchase the yarn separately, you won’t be able to get this super cool bag or these stitch markers AND you’ll have twice as much yarn as you’ll need.

Because this happened with the Oregon Trail Kit AND the Legend of Zelda Kit despite my disclaimers, let me state the (I guess, not so) obvious: The kit does NOT include the actual Pokémon Sock pattern. All eight clues must be downloaded from our website or Ravelry as they are released. See release schedule above for dates.

Alright, fam. We’ll see you back here on Sunday. We’ll talk gauge swatches, share the project sheet with you, and get you hyped up for more colorwork socks!
