2022 Geek-A-Long: Oregon Trail Clue 2

Hello my Brave Sock Pioneers! I don’t know about you, but this week seemed universally long and hard. Nothing of note actually happened, it was just one of those weeks where my executive functioning was Out of Office, and it didn’t have the decency to set an away message to alert me to this.

Feeling overwhelmed by all the things that needed to get done, I did the only logical thing one can do in that circumstance: I bought a new planner because clearly the one I already had isn’t getting the job done and cast on a new project. I have decided to participate in the Geek-A-Long this year, which is a first.

I make our sample ahead of the start of each GAL, and I take a ton of project pics while I work on it so I can retroactively share them, but I thought since this year we intentionally went with low impact, easier to keep up with projects, I would play along. Best decision ever. I cast on a new pair of Oregon Trail socks early in the week and in a show of absolute madness I’m even going to keep them for me. I’ll still send our original pairs to Child’s Play at the end of the year, so no change there, but it was so fun this week to knit the clue – and stop at the end of the first clue and wait for the 2nd to release today before continuing! I should have done this sooner, it’s fun to play along.

I won’t spam you here with more Instagram photos here on the blog, but if you aren’t following me there, I’ve been including fun historical facts about the Oregon Trail (both the real Trail and the game) in my posts this last week, and plan to do that for all of our socks this year. It’s been fun to learn about the history of the game, and hope you’ll stop by our accounts (I’m @doctor_llama, Jac is @Jac_attacking, and L&L is @Lattesandllamasyarn) and learn along with me about the important difference between Oxen and Mules when choosing an animal to pull your Wagon.

View Oregon Trail: Clue 2 by clicking the button below. When you download the pattern from our website instead of through Ravelry, you will NOT receive automatic updates. You will have to come here and download the next clue every time. Please download it via Raverly if you are able, so you have immediate access to the clues as they are released and any errata that may appear.

Cats make excellent photography backdrops.

Mules may be smart and able to respond to thier names and learn tricks, but I’ve always been more of a cat-person than a dog-person, so I’ll stick to the disinterested Oxen.
