2021 Geek-A-Long Sweater: Clue 9

Welcome to week 9 of the 2021 Geek-A-Long! We’ve finally caught up with the spoiler I released way back when in May, so everything from here on out is a fun surprise.

I’ve been looking forward to this point in our magical board game adventure. I feel like Monopoly was a given. I’m not going to make a board game themed sweater and not put Monopoly on it. But that also means that once we get Uncle Money Bags out of the way I get to keep you guessing about what’s coming up next. I’m 100% positive that you won’t be able to guess everything we’ve squeezed onto this jacket, and I’m equally sure you’ll love it.

It’s a Geek-A-Long inception! The Board Game sweater WIP on top of the D&D blanket. I made my sample earlier in the year, and it was still cold enough to wear a blanket while knitting. I always felt like I was being delightfully meta every time I snuggled up under the 2020 sweater that Jac made me and stitched away at this year’s sweater.

This week’s clue follows the same format that was established in Clue 8, and you’re going to leave your stitch markers where they are through clue 16. Despite being incredibly chart heavy, I think you’ll find that it’s easy to get in a comfortable routine with the charts since they will follow the same rhythm all the way to the sleeve join. Admittedly, things will get more complex there, when we join the sleeves and start decreasing for the yoke, but by then you’ll be so comfortable with double knitting it won’t be an issue.

To execute this section, I worked the blue background of the “go to jail” chart in double knit intarsia, with blue as the background on the right side, and black for the background on the wrong side. I worked the lettering and the white stitches on the pipe smoking, finger wagging cop with duplicate stitch. This section also features dark green and dark blue for the top of the monopoly spaces and the red arrow and lettering of “GO”. All of those I worked in duplicate stitch, though you could certainly do the blue and green with intarsia. For more details about working in double knit intarsia, see the post for clue 8.

One last note: Some errata was caught in the instructions for clue 7. The previous version told you to work the last row of the chart (row 20) as row 10. That was a typo, work row 20 of the chart when you reach it, don’t rework row 10 after working row 19. The pattern has been updated in Ravelry with that correction.

Released so far:

View On Board: Clue 8 by clicking this link or download it by clicking the button below. When you download the pattern from our website instead of through Ravelry, you will NOT receive automatic updates. You will have to come here and download the next clue every time. Please download it via Raverly if you are able, so you have immediate access to the clues as they are released and any errata that may appear.

I posted on instagram last night, but wanted to post here as well, if you don’t follow me there: Mr. Llama ran an all day, D&D charity drive to support Stacy Abrams’ Fair Fight initiative to combat voter suppression. If you can afford to do so, please consider helping him support this important work. You can also catch his weekly RPG Rifts stream Tuesdays at 8 eastern on Nerds with Dice.
