Yellow Bricked

“If we crochet far enough,” says Dorothy, “we shall sometime come to an accessory.”

Alright, so Dorothy didn’t exactly say that when she was on the Yellow Brick Road, but she would have if she’d had a ball of yarn and handy crochet hook in that little basket.

Crochet was my first introduction to the fiber arts world and will always be my one true love. With our work being so focused on knitting, I feel as if every summer I find myself falling back in love with it. Crochet has become my summertime fling. I look forward to it once it starts to get warm the way I find myself craving pumpkin spiced lattes and comfy sweaters on the first day of September.

Since it’s summer and I fell in love with this gold the moment it came out of the dye pot, I crocheted it in our new Baah-Free Light yarn. It’s a light fingering weight cotton, and I imagined myself wearing it on early morning walks on the beach with my husband. It can get a bit brisk with the wind coming in off the ocean, and you should never wear something on the beach you aren’t afraid of accidentally dropping in the water! I probably won’t be wearing it at the beach anytime soon, but I’m looking forward to rocking it this fall.

Yellow Bricked is a light wrap with a buttery drape perfect for early spring and autumn, or as a simple wrap for early morning walks on the beach. This pashmina is crocheted in turned rows from the center outwards from the foundation row, beginning with the simple Brick Road and ending with a more complex lace pattern. The length is easily adjustable and directions are written into the pattern to do so.

This pattern includes both written and charted directions.

We joked around that Mabel looked like a tiny wizard with some Hagrid vibes, so we’ve been passing this picture around the family with the phrase “Yer a wizard, Mabel!” After I posted it to Instagram asking for some pattern name suggestions for Yellow Bricked — I don’t know why I struggled naming this one so much, but I did — everyone was like, “Just call it that!” I ended up going with Yellow Bricked for the pattern name, but now I feel as if I should probably make something specifically for Mabel the Merciless and call it “Yer a Wizard, Mabel!”

I’m leaning towards a blue conical colorwork hat with gold stars on it. Go full on traditional wizard.
