Twinkling Tree Slippers

Ever since I knitted the Twinkling Tree Socks (pictured below) last year and gave them to Megan-Anne for Christmas, my husband has been insanely jealous. Why don’t I ever knit him socks? Why don’t I want his toes to be the coziest they can be?

Real talk, he’s hard on his socks. Maybe it’s because he insists on dragging his feet all over the house? I don’t know. Still, the idea of knitting socks for him makes me wince. My compromise — after making him swear up and down that he’ll be more mindful — is that I’d knit slipper socks for him. They work up infinitely faster than regular hand-knit socks since they’re made with worsted (or aran) weight yarn.

I re-imagined the original Twinkling Tree Socks he was so jealous of as slipper socks. To set them apart from their predecessor a bit, I added an additional two colors to accent the cuff, heel, and the toe. The tree that is created with simple cabling had to be reworked a bit to fit on a worsted weight sock, but I love the way they turned out. The Twinkling Tree Slippers definitely look as if they should be worn beside a fireplace with a up of hot chocolate in your hands.

Inspired by the first snow of the season, the Twinkling Tree Slippers evoke the cozy feeling of sitting by the fire and watching the snow drift lazily down with the serene thought of knowing you get to enjoy it from inside. Each slipper sock has a tree motif done with simple cabling. Seed stitch is then carried down the foot of the sock all the way to the toe to represent the twinkling snow.

I loved making these socks. They look beautiful, and they had more of an instant gratification feel to them since they knit up so much faster with the heavier weight yarn. I even ended up knitting a second pair for my mom!
