Fire Claws

The gloves are worked in Vacation Yarn in colors Mutant Sangria and Cyborg.

If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen some spoilers of a very special project I’ve been working on. As of yesterday the Kickstarter is live, and I can finally tell you all the X-citing details!

A few months ago I saw a Tweet looking for artist contributors for a cookbook/art collection inspired by the X-Men. When I submitted a “recipe” for Wolverine inspired handwarmers I was 50% joking, 100% serious. The awesome folks curating the book appreciate my sense of humor, and were into it. The result is that the world is now 1 Wolverine claws accessory richer, and I think we are all better for it.

These are the perfect accessory to wear while eating cupcakes, fighting the Brotherhood of Mutants, or using your fire claws as a DIY hair straightener! The simple slip stitch motif reverses colors on the top and bottom of the mitts, allowing you to choose to wear them as an homage to Wolverine’s traditional metal claws, or his exciting new fire claws. The gloves use a simple mosaic slipped stitch pattern that requires no stranded color work! You’ll work just one color each round, alternating rounds between the main and contrast color. They use 2 balls of Vacation Yarn, and you’ll have a generous amount left over. This is a great stash buster, or if you want to treat yourself to new yarn for them, there’s enough left over to make a hat, or add a 3rd color and make a scarf.

The Guide to X-Ceptional Baking is a passion project put together by some amazing X-Fans, and was born from the community of awesome nerds that naturally gravitate towards the celestial bodies of Jay and Miles. If you don’t know Jay and Miles, they X-Plain the X-Men (because it’s about time somebody did). The book is a collection of art, recipes, and crafts that all celebrate the X-Men.

It’s a true fan project, and relies on Kickstarter for funding. I try not to ask you guys for much, but like, can we just make this happen? For a paltry $35USD you will get a PDF -AND- a physical book. The book itself is a really nice looking, heavy duty wire bound cookbook that can double as an awesome coffee table art book. There are some cool incentives on the Kickstarter page, but I’m adding one here as well. Take a screenshot of your confirmation page after backing the project at the $35 physical book level and send it to me as a Ravelry message (@DrLlama). I’ll add the Fire Claws pattern to your library, and give you a coupon for 35% your entire purchase in my Ravelry Pattern store.

I don’t know about you nerds, but I need more X-Men cakes in my life.
