Are you ready to fight evil by moonlight, win love by daylight, and never run from a real fight? Then you’re ready for the one named Sailor Moon! She will never turn her back on a friend. She is always there to defend. She is the one whom we depend. And she was nominated by fadingembers in the Fight for Your Fandom forum to be on the 2018 Geek-A-Long blanket:
Sailor Moon!
1. It’s a classic and was a gateway anime for a lot of people
2. Awesome lady superheroes for everyone!
3. So many brooches and weapons and attacks and accessories, there’s a good knitting chart in there somewhere.
She was right, there is a lot of great imagery to choose from, but ultimately we went with Luna, Sailor Moon’s talking black cat companion. The awesome thing about immortalizing Luna in yarn is that it automatically creates another character on the wrong side, Artemis, the white cat companion to Sailor V.
As a preteen girl in the early 90s, Sailor Moon was the right amount of girl power, romance, and talking cats. I desperately wanted a cat with a crescent moon on its forehead to come tell me that I was actually the reincarnated Princess Serenity. I mean, who wouldn’t want a Rupert Giles-esque cat to help train you in your new superpowers when you weren’t falling head over heels in love with Tuxedo Mask.
If you aren’t familiar with the Sailor Moon franchise, it originally started as a manga by Naoko Takeuchi and was adapted in 1992 to become an anime series. There were also theatrical feature films, live-action series remakes, novels, video games, and even more anime adaptations.
Sailor Moon is about a middle-school student named Usagi (aka Serena or Bunny in some English dubs), who befriends a talking black cat named Luna that changes her life. Luna gives Usagi a magical brooch that enables her to become Sailor Moon — a soldier destined to save Earth from the forces of evil — and helps her assemble a team of fellow Sailor Soldiers. Together they protect the planet Earth from the Dark Kingdom (aka the Negaverse in early English dubs).

And let’s not forget the magic nail polish. My fingernails would always look fresh to death.
