Nessie Expedition

The U.S.S. Sock Knitter has docked and those of us who weren’t cursed to stay aboard the ship and endlessly search Loch Ness for its elusive cryptid have disembarked. We hoped you enjoyed your cruise. We look forward to sharing your candid photos (AKA project photos) from our voyage with everyone next Friday when we announce which of the Nessie Expedition participants won a skein of Adventure Yarn.

Megan-Anne wrote most of the posts for the Nessie Expedition, but I wanted to do this one so that I could say thank you. (And she skipped out on work today to take Mabel the Merciless to Philly Comic Con, but that’s neither here nor there.) I toiled over the color charts for these socks, and I can’t truly express just how wonderful it feels to see you guys loving them so much. They were a labor of love. After years of designing the Geek-A-Long, which is basically glorified fan fiction emblazoned in yarn, it feels great to be creating something that is 100% my heart on a sock.

Also, it’s put my creative juices in overdrive. Megan-Anne and I already designed the next installment of the Lattes & Llamas Society for Knitterly Cryptid Studies, which will be coming out in a few weeks. She keeps showing spoilers of the yarn DESPITE WHAT WE DISCUSSED in her weekly book club posts, but the joke is on her. I’ve been cooking up something intensely awesome in my free time that I refuse to share with her.

Alright, so it’s all I think about and I spend every second on it that I can. I am completely obsessed. But, as corny as it sounds, I wanted to personally thank you guys for inspiring me. I can’t wait to show you guys and Megan-Anne my super secret project later this summer.

Yes, that sounds you hear is me cackling wildly as I thrum my fingers together menacingly.

If you just stumbled onto our little corner of the internet and haven’t been following along with the Nessie Expedition, you can get your metaphorical ticket to take your own voyage on the U.S.S. Sock Knitter from our online store. The Nessie Expedition Kit will come with two specially dyed, 50 gram Coffee Cakes only available in this kit, one skein of Vacation Yarn in Baskerville, two beaded stitch markers that match your yarn, one super sweet project bag for your knitting luggage, and a PDF of the pattern. While you’re knitting, you can follow along with our adventure through the Scottish Highlands via the links below:

  1. We’re setting sail with sock one on our needles. – View our post about it here.
  2. Our first port of call where we’ll start the second half of sock one. – View our post about it here.
  3. Shore leave to resupply and cast on the second sock. – View our post about it here.
  4. Anchors down in Loch Ness as we knit the rest of sock two with our final Nessie sighting. – View our post about it here.

Deep in the Scottish Highlands, a beast dwells in Loch Ness. Few have seen the beast, and even fewer lived to tell the tale. But here, at the Lattes & Llamas Society for Knitterly Cryptid Studies, we have definitive evidence of Nessie’s existence. For the first time in history, Nessie has been found… on your socks!

If kits aren’t your bag, you can download the Nessie Expedition pattern by clicking the buy now button below for $6.00 USD.

A PDF will be emailed to you by Ravelry. You don’t need to be a Ravelry member to purchase the pattern, but if you are, the PDF will show up in your library. If you are a member of Ravelry, you can view the Nessie Expedition Socks here.

Make sure and show off your projects in the Nessie Expedition Ravelry Thread, and if you share them on Instagram or twitter tag us at @Doctor_llama and @lattesandllamasyarn so we can revel in your glory! Use #NessieEpedition and #LandLMKAL so that everyone knitting along and lurking can see your work too.

While I’m enjoying torturing Megan-Anne by not sharing any details about my super secret project with her, it’s been really weird to work on it by myself. Even though only one of our names is listed as the designer when we publish patterns on Ravelry, they’re always a joint effort.
