Our first encounter, though I was shaken to my core by the horror of the Beast, I found myself filled with Divine power, and spoke with the calm treble of a prophet of the Lord.
BACK BEAST! BEGONE FROM HERE, YOU SHALL GO NO FURTHER!
The beast turned back, as if pulled by silent forces and the water itself obeyed my call, swallowing the Monster of Loch Ness. The foul Beast, her belly swollen with the feast of villagers she had happened upon, was drawn screeching and gnashing back to her lair in the depths of the highlands.
I wrote quickly to the Vatican of my power over the beast, and many were called to the Church upon hearing my tale. Still, I know what is said about me in the village. Columba, the man who claims to have seen the beast, who claims to have turned her back, but none have witnessed this.
It was 3 years before I saw her again, though I did set out upon the Lake of Loch Ness each day. This has been my calling, my religion for these years. The Beast will surface again, and I must be here to stop her stride and deflect her monstrous appetite.
I first thought that surely I had hallucinated the Beastling when I saw it. One quarter of the size of the beast I had commanded, its skin smooth and unscarred. Could this be the Beast, reborn after its hibernation? Does the Demon shed its gargantuan form at the end of it’s hibernation? I called out to it, but this time, the power forsake me, and the Beastling swam back to the depths, unhindered by my words.
As I read the last few words, the ship’s cook and head knitter, Mrs. Spicer startled me. For such an elderly lady, she manages to sneak around the boat with ease.
Don’t worry about Columba dear, you know how men are. If I’ve told him once, I’ve told him a hundred times, Nessie just needed some time to herself to have her babies. If you hurry topside, you might still be able to see one for yourself.
I ran back to the deck, but I had missed the sighting. Luckily, one of my fellow adventurers managed to capture her likeness on the leg of a sock!

Let’s all give a round of applause to Lisa, for her keen eye and fast knitting! Hopefully next week I’ll catch a glimpse for myself.
Adventures on the U.S.S. Sock Knitter continue next Friday!
The second clue has been released and you can join the Expedition by clicking the “buy it now” link:
A quick reminder: if you purchased a Nessie Expedition Kit, and provided us with your Ravelry ID, or purchased the pattern on Ravelry, the second clue will automatically appear in your Ravelry Library. To make printing a little friendlier, I did not include all of the project sheet information in clues 2-4 (though it is in Clue 1). So keep the project sheet or Clue 1 handy in case you need to check abbreviations or other pattern information.
Last week we announced a special MKAL prize, which you can read about HERE. The short version is we’re going to raffle off a skein of our favorite BFL sock yarn, Adventure Yarn, to one lucky member of the Nessie Expedition.
Make sure and show off your projects in the Nessie Expedition Ravelry Thread, and if you share them on Instagram or twitter tag me at @Doctor_llama so I can revel in your glory! Use #NessieEpedition and #LandLMKAL so that everyone knitting along and lurking can see your work too.

“The Scottish government has long been interested in protecting Nessie. This just reinforces this whole notion (that) the officials in Scotland take this creature very seriously”. -Science Monitor, Apr. 27, 2010
Yay Nessie! I’m so excited to get to cast on with y’all.
