2018 Geek-A-Long: Sherlock Revisited

Hi. Hello. This is Jac, coming to you live from Vogue Knitting Live. Currently, I am sitting in booth 120 on the 5th floor of the Marriott Marquis in Times Square, waiting for the marketplace floor to open. Like the extremely smart person that I am, I did not upload the pattern I had planned for today before leaving for New York on Thursday, so you probably won’t get to read this (and download your brand new Sherlock GAL pattern) until after we pack up and head home tonight.

I’ll probably talk more about VK Live later this week, but I have to share this one picture with you. We ran into a few of our fellow GAL peeps, hugged, took pictures together, but my favorite was with Currentlypurring Friday night. She actually brought the latest square she was working on, Thor!

I love talking to you guys in person! One day, Megan-Anne and I will work up the guts to open as “in real life” Lattes & Llamas store, complete with coffee and snacks, for everyone to come hang out at. But in the meanwhile, I really treasure the moments when we get to meet you guys outside of the internet and chat. :D

We’ve come a long way since Megan-Anne and I released those first few Geek-A-Long squares all the way back in 2014. We’ve definitely leveled up as designers since then, but churning out over 200 squares can do that! So, one of the first fandoms we want to revisit is Sherlock. For the original design, we wanted to keep the balance between the BBC television Sherlock and the one from the novels with the combination of the address and the smiley face. Now, I’m going to give you that thing I have received countless requests for over the years, the iconic Sherlock wallpaper from the show. (Link is towards the end of the post.)

When you download the pattern, you’ll notice that I did not add the smiley face. And before you crack your knuckles and start emailing me, here me out on this one. I love this wallpaper. I love it so much, I made the (more elaborate) color charts for the Shersocks. And I guess, Megan-Anne did help by doing all the math and knitting them, but that’s besides the point. The point is that I know the smiley face belongs on it, but dang it – it took me FOREVER to make this wallpaper. So, if you want to add the smiley face, I recommend that you add one using duplicate stitch. Megan-Anne did a tutorial on Instagram this summer. And that is all I will do to help you sully my wallpaper, Sherlock!

Whether you’re knitting, crocheting, or cross stitching this square, you can download the Sherlock Revisited pattern here. Instructions and charts for both knit and crochet are listed in the pattern. When you’re finished making it, don’t forget to Instagram your squares at us @lattesandllamasyarn with the hashtag #geekalong!

If you’re having trouble with double-sided knitting, we have a how-to video here and a tutorial on crochet here. Want to hang out with other people making the blanket? You can find moral support in the Geek-A-Long group on Ravelry here.

You got that I was channeling Mrs. Hudson, right?

Hi, Kris! This is actually an old pattern. A new shawl pattern with the accompanying coupon code releases on January 28th.
