2016 Geek-A-Long: Dragon Age

19 Dragon Age 2

If I had it my way this entire post would be devoted to Dorian Pavus from Dragon Age Inquisition. He puts the romance back in necromancer. Dorian is 50% witty banter and 50% playful flirtation, and 100% the reason why I scrapped my female dwarf warrior in favor of a male Qunari. But enough about how I spent an hour making my Qunari warrior look like Dean Winchester with horns so that I could eventually seduce Dorian Pavus… Let’s talk about Dragon Age.

19 Dragon Age 3

Dragon Age is one of the rare games that I’ve both played myself and watched my husband play as well. I can’t tell you how many times he and I sat through the ending of the Dragon Age: Origins just so we could see how it would play out with the different characters and choices we made. We got more than our moneys worth with that game and, I’ll be honest, I would totally play it again right now.

This RPG is one of my favorite games of all time. Instead of having a black and white morality system like Mass Effect or Fable, Dragon Age is more nuanced. Your game and dialog choices influence how other characters see you. And you can ply them with special gifts! Admittedly, I had a rough time getting through Dragon Age 2. At a certain point, every dungeon felt exactly the same and it got boring. The game was more hack and slash than anything else. But the newest installment in the Dragon Age series, Inquisition, is fantastic so far. I’d probably done with it already if I didn’t have to abandon my female dwarf, but whatever. It was worth it.

For the square, we picked the Templar’s flaming sword logo. I wanted to put Dorian’s face on it, but Megan-Anne said it wouldn’t fit. I think she’s mean and jealous of our love.

Whether you’re knitting, crocheting, or cross stitching this square, you can download the 19 Dragon Age pattern here. Instructions for both knit and crochet are listed in the pattern. When you’re finished making it, don’t forget to tweet or instagram your squares at me @jac_attacking or Megan-Anne @Doctor_Llama with the hashtag #geekalong!

If you’re having trouble with double-sided knitting, we have a how-to video here and a tutorial on crochet here. Want to hang out with other people making the blanket? You can find moral support in the Geek-A-Long group on Ravelry here.

Inquisitor: There’s an altar.
Dorian: “And everything was perfectly serene until they disturbed the ancient altar.”
