I am SUPER excited to be adding Dr. Thaddeus “Rusty” Venture to the 2015 Geek-A-Long blanket. The Venture Brothers were on our original list for 2014, but we held him back once the Mad Science theme for this year was decided.
“You can’t collect scientists and not have a Rusty Venture on your mantel.”
Dr. Venture, Season 4 Episode 11 of the Venture Brothers
Son of the famous scientist, Dr. Jonas Venture Sr., and father of Hank and Dean Venture, Rusty is the poster child for underdog nerds. He spent his life trying to get out of his father’s shadow, and though he is arguably one of the greatest (if not most ethical) scientific minds of his era, conventional scientific communities shun him. Say what you will about his inventions, anyone that can clone his sons that many times has got to be a genius. And let’s not forget about his work as a philanthropist! His work with the Scrotal Safety Commission is saving lives, one testicle at a time.
I’ll admit, his record isn’t spotless. I’m not sure how many times his sons have died at this point, and I doubt he is either. But his contributions to science cannot be ignored!

Designing this one was really personal for me. I met Mr. Llama at a Halloween party. He was there as Rusty Venture, speed suit and all, and I was Cruella DeVille. I don’t have a pic of him in his speed-suit from that night, but I really wish I did. This could be the copious amount of Midori Sours I had earlier in the night talking, but my memory says he was downright resplendent. A few short weeks later we were on our first date (the Franklin Institute followed by Dave & Busters for those of you keeping score at home).
