2015 Prize Baskets: Lion Brand Yarn

Lion Brand Scarfie Yarn (1)

THIS IS NOT A DRILL, PEOPLE. CHRISTMAS IS IN 45 DAYS! And Hanukkah is even sooner. Which can only mean that I am totally freaking out about my holiday knitting right now. I had started off with good intentions back in July. I finished one item and started two others, but I still have a bunch of people in my life that deserve something handmade.

I probably shouldn’t have chosen to crochet an afghan big enough for two as one of my presents this year. It’s eating up all my spare time, but I’m not willing to give up my dream of handmade holidays. I was freaking out about what to make until Lion Brand reminded me that chunky scarves were a thing. They sent us eight skeins of their new Scarfie Yarn for the 2015 Geek-A-Long mega raffle, and now I think I need to make a quick run to the craft store. ;)

But before I get more into Lion Brand Yarn and their donation to the prize baskets, let me give you a quick reminder about the rules:

We’re raffling off four prizes again this year and in order to be eligible to win one of the three prizes, you must post a picture of your completed 2015 blanket to the Ravelry GAL group by January 31, 2016. The blanket must contain 24 of the 48 squares released in 2015, be joined and edged. Just like last year, the fourth prize will be raffled off for just being a member of the group. If you’re not a member, however, it isn’t too late to join and get in on the fun! You can find everything you’ll need to know about the Geek-A-Long on the FAQ page.

Personally, I love local yarn stores, especially as someone who owns and operates a small yarn company. But there is something about Lion Brand Yarn that gives me the warm fuzzies. I learned how to crochet with their yarn and it was what I used when I first experimented with design. Their line of Wool-Ease yarn, which comes in a variety of weights and colors, are the perfect choice for when you want to knit handmade gifts for people that can’t handle caring for luxury fibers. Because let me tell you, there is nothing worse than knitting a cashmere pashmina for someone and learning they put in through the dryer. True story.

Lion Brand’s Scarfie Yarn is 78% acrylic, 22% wool, and has enough yardage to knit or crochet a full length scarf. The chunky weight yarn has a self-striping ombre effect and comes in a variety of heathered hues. They sent us two skeins of the Denim/Navy, Silver/Charcoal, Cream/Taupe, and Cream/Black for our future Geek-A-Long prize winners. Even better, if anyone “accidentally” runs the finished product in the dryer, it isn’t the end of the world.
