Harvest Melody Hat

Ya’ll, I am sick of being sick.

My severe seasonal allergies turned a nasty cold into a sinus/ear infection. I’m on antibiotics, which means I’m 60% yogurt at this point. I used to love Chobani Flips, but now I’m gonna flip if I have to eat one more with my antibiotic pill just to avoid a yeast infection. I’m over it. It’s been two and a half weeks now.

Anyway, here’s a picture of me wearing my latest pattern, the Harvest Melody Hat. Not pictured is my husband getting an authentic smile out of me by reminding me that probiotic pills are a thing I could be taking instead of living off yogurt.

I am a dumbass.

When there isn’t enough room to wear your autumnal heart on your sleeve, Harvest Melody lets you show it off on your hat. With piles of pumpkins around the hat, you’ll be ready for crisp fall mornings, apple cider, and the changing leaves.

About the Hat

This hat is worked in the round from the brim up, using the smaller needles for the Brim and final rounds of the Crown of the hat; larger needles are used to work in stranded knitting for the Body. This hat pattern is recommended for knitters who have experience with stranded colorwork, knitting in the round, and reading charts.

Recommended Yarn: Three skeins of Lattes & Llamas Geek-A-Long Yarn (100 grams/ 328 yards) or a comparable sport weight yarn in three contrasting colorways.

Sample is shown in Half-Orc as Color A, Cyborg as Color B, and Hep Alien as Color C.

  • Color A: 11 (12, 13, 14) grams/ 36 (40, 43, 46) yards
  • Color B: 33 (36, 39, 42) grams/ 109 (118, 128, 138) yards
  • Color C: 22 (24, 26, 28) grams/ 72 (79, 86, 92) yards

When choosing your colorways, make sure Color B contrasts strongly with Color C. I recommend taking a photograph of the yarns together, and then changing it into black and white to double check.

The Harvest Melody Hat was inspired by the mitts (of the same name) I released back in autumn 2020. I decided to keep the hat simpler, forgoing the acorn motif (featured on the palm) and the oak leaves. I think it makes the two pieces more complementary. Like, you could wear them both at the same time and not feel as if you were too matchy-matchy. I love the way it turned out, and now it’s finally cold enough to wear them!

Normally, I don’t model my own work. Megan-Anne does like 90 percent of the modelling around here and I love to do photography. But it came to my attention recently that I never model, which I guess is a bad thing when you want folks to realize there are two people behind your business. Oops!
