It’s week 2 of the Legend of Zelda Socks, and it’s an exciting week my fellow Knights of Hyrule! Link had to take a 7 year nap before he was strong enough to wield the powerful Hylian Shield, but you’re such a powerful fibermancer that you’ve earned yours after just one week. Stronger and sturdier than the wooden shields that Link has been accustomed to, the Hylian shield is light enough to be wielded with just one hand and is fire resistant. I don’t know how often you’ll need to protect your knitting from unexpected fireballs, but if you ever do, you’ll be well equipped.
Last week I invited Kevin to tell you what he loves most about Zelda, and he opted to tell you about Immortals: Phoenix Rising instead. That’s fairly on-brand for following instructions in this house. XD And he’s not done telling you about games that are not Zelda. So relax, take care of yourself this week, knit up a gusset and enjoy his take on Tunic.
The next game I want to tell you about is Tunic. I found it on X-box Game Pass. It’s a charming game that is inspired by the original NES game and a little bit by Dark Souls. You play an adorable fox in a little green tunic who wakes up on the shoreline with no memory. Slowly, you find pages of the game manual that reveal parts of the game. The manual is gorgeous and illustrated like an old NES manual, but written in a language you can’t understand. As you piece together the manual the game really comes to life. The story is a complete mystery until you piece it together. I’m glad I didn’t know too much about it going in, as exploring it is the best part.
While I don’t think it’s a perfect game, it’s definitely worth playing. I only had to look up two things online when I got jammed up. They basically boiled down to, “When it lifts up, walk under it,” and “That fight is incredibly difficult, just use the accessibility setting and enjoy the game. It unlocks a super fun ability.” I will someday go back and find all the manual pages, but I’m not in a rush.
I hope you enjoy those games as much as I did. And I hope they make Zelda a playable character in Breath of the Wild 2. It’s going to be a while before it comes out, but I’ll be waiting, ready to play the game as soon as it releases if I can finally be the titular character.
–I feel like there’s some good ‘holding your Breath of the Wild, Too’ wordplay, but I can’t land the joke. I should have drunk a stamina potion. (Because you use up stamina while gliding. Get it?…… Listen. You come to me for post content and and you’re going to get Dad jokes.

This week has been really hard. My heart is breaking for the families of the victims of the school massacre in Texas. I thought about writing about it in the post, but honestly, I feel too raw still. I had a really hard time dropping Mabel at school the last few days. Take care of yourself today, hug your babies, and call your State Reps and demand gun control.
