When the first year of the Geek-A-Long was coming to a close way back in 2014, Megan-Anne shared with you how hard it was to narrow down our list of fandoms into the 48 we used for that first blanket. Now, with nearly 300 Geek-A-Long squares under out belt, I can’t help but chuckle at all of the emails we received that year (and since!) panicked that we didn’t commemorate their favorite fandom in yarn.
We’re coming up on the end of the first annual Geek-A-Long (and yes, there WILL definitely be a 2015 blanket) and some of you will not get to see your favorite thing memorialized in yarn. Some of my favorite things aren’t even on it. The first list of ideas Jac and I put together had over 100 items on it. We had to slash more than half of them, and there were only a handful that we never considered cutting. Pong is one of those squares. [Read More]
~ Megan-Anne, week of 41 of 2014
What started as an ambitious yet small, grass roots project is now in its eighth year and has grown beyond anything Megan-Anne and I could ever have imagined. When I pitched the idea to her on an escalator at the mall on our way to Starbucks, I honestly didn’t believe anyone would be interested in our project eight years later, but I’m glad you guys have stuck around and supported our art.

For our second week of the 2021 Geek-A-Long, I’m taking a step away from chemical compounds like the Caffeine Molecule and am kicking it old school with some classic video games. I updated Pong [week 41 of 2014] and Tetris [week 2 of 2016], and you can read the original blogs posts by clicking those links. Those posts also contain previews of the patterns and download buttons like the ones below for you to snag Pong and Tetris for yourself.
Naturally, Tetris was featured on 8-Bit, the Geek-A-Long’s first sweater knit along! Pong didn’t quite make the cut, but there are a lot of other great video games on it.

Next week, I’ll be tackling my first 2015 pattern. I had planned to do it today, but I chickened out. The events of this week have left me a bit too scatter-brained and depressed to have the nerve to do it. But no matter what happens, I’m doing it for week 3!

There is no better feeling in life than getting that Tetris piece right where you need it.
