The Spider Queen’s Coronation
by Megan-Anne Llama
The uneasy peace had come to an end. The Spider looked at her. She looked at the Spider. Slowly, deliberately, it took one step towards her. She always knew it would come to this. Resigned to her fate, she slid the deed to the house across the kitchen floor. This home now belongs to the Spider. But then, she was forced to admit, the house had always belonged to the Spider. She had been the interloper all along.
The Spider moved into the master bed, and she moved into his old home under the sink. One day she noticed a tiny light glittering in the corner. She reached out a long, segmented leg towards it. Strange, she thought to herself. Had her legs always looked like this? Don’t be silly she told herself as she pulled the shining golden crown towards her. Of course, the Spider Queen thought, Of course this is how it should be.
Stepping out from beneath the sink she stretched her legs, her faceted eyes sparkling.
