2019 Geek-A-Long: Futurama

This weekend, Jac and I had to pop back to Indiana for a family funeral. While we’re away, we’ve asked the always helpful Mr. Llama to share a little about his love of Futurama with you. Enjoy, and see you next week! ~Megan-Anne

I absolutely love Futurama. It’s one of those shows I can watch endlessly, and Bender is a big part of what makes it so binge-worthy. Much like Frye, I didn’t know I needed a sarcastic, ego-maniacal, drunk robot in my life, but it turns out I do. He’s like if the Fonz was made of metal and wanted to kill most humans. The writers do a great job with him and he shows a lot of depth of character over the series and regularly shows love and affection, though most of the things he loves simply remind him of himself.

Bender is the universe’s worst boyfriend. He’s dated Mobster’s wives, the Planet Express Ship, Amy Wing, Bev the drink vending machine, and was even engaged to Calculon once. Bender is the worst, except when he is secretly the best. He’s not a good person, which makes him all the more entertaining to watch. And deep down he’s not really a bad person either. He is the caricature of Chaotic-Neutral.

The characters on Futurama are amazing. They are multidimensional and interesting thanks to great character design and brilliant voice acting from some of the best in the business. Bender is voices by John DiMaggio, who also voices another favorite of mine, Jake the Dog on Adventure Time. The rest of the cast includes Billy West who voiced Ren and Stimpy, Katie Segal, who started on Married with Children and Sons of Anarchy, Rob Paulson, who voices Pinky on Pinky and the Brain and Toodles* on Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. Other brilliant voice actors like Maurice LeMarsh and Phil Lamarr round out the cast. These actors bring life to the hundreds of side characters that make the universe of Futurama so fun. Giant ooze monsters, robot gangsters, and Globetrotters. It’s a fun universe and I love getting to visit it.

*I have a theory that Toodles is a sadistic cult leader performing social experiments on the clubhouse inhabitants. Oh Toodles, you’re a mousketool.

Hi!!! Thanks for all your great patterns. I’m knitting my son a blanket to take away to college with him. The pattern link in this post doesn’t seem to take you to the Futurama square. I ended up at an Eldric (?) square. I hope I spelled that right, I had never heard of it.
