Just so you know, I spent ten-minutes trying to write a song about knitting shawls to the tune of “Ghostbusters.” It did NOT go well. Megan-Anne is the bard, she’s the best at writing little ditties about knitting on the fly. But she isn’t answering her phone at the moment, so here we are. Let’s just pretend like I totally pulled it off, and you’re highly amused by my sweet lyrical stylings.
Anyway, we’re on week four again of our special four week cycle for the Geek-A-Long’s five year anniversary, which means it’s time for another premium pattern! For your consideration, I present the Ectoplasm Shawl.
Inspired by Dana Barrett’s “Spook Central” apartment building, the Ectoplasm Shawl features mosaic knitting and an accentuated center panel in the top-down triangle shape, which blunts the point of the piece and gives it an Art Deco feel. It’ll leave you asking, “Are you the gatekeeper?” Whether you’re meeting the ancient Sumerian deity Gozer or grabbing lunch with the Keymaster, the Ectoplasm Shawl is an elegant piece that will punctuate any outfit.
You can get the Ectoplasm Shawl pattern for free by clicking the buy now link below AND entering the code ‘GATEKEEPER’ at check out. This coupon code will expire one year and a day from today, at which point it will be $6 USD.
A PDF will be emailed to you by Ravelry. You don’t need to be a Ravelry member to purchase the pattern, but if you are, the PDF will show up in your library.
The Ectoplasm Shawl is perfect for Advanced Beginner to Intermediate knitters. The stitches used are simple, but you should be comfortable with following charts. I knitted our sample with one skein each of Interlude Yarn in Ectoplasm (green) and Stars Hollow (navy blue). The cashmere and silk give it an amazing drape, but you could also knit it with Vacation Yarn. I had a few test knitters that chose that base and their shawls turned out lovely.
This shawl is best knit during a Ghostbusters movie binge, but you could sub in a few episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Supernatural if you don’t have access to them.

Stars Hollow and Ectoplasm are officially my new favorite color combo. it makes me feel electric, and also gives me a weird urge to write Ghostbusters/Gilmore Girls fanfic.
