2018 Geek-A-Long: Road So Far Socks

Howdy, Geek-A-Long Nation! We’re on week four again of our special four week cycle for the Geek-A-Long’s five year anniversary, which means it’s time for another premium pattern! Those of you that had subscribed to the Society of Caffeinated Knitters back in October of 2017 will recognize this sock. Megan-Anne and I had planned to finally release to the general public a few weeks ago when she had the idea to add it today for Father’s Day.

If you’re familiar with the franchise, which I feel like you should be since we’ve released two GAL squares (one and two) and a Castiel Tree Topper, there is a certain amount of dramatic irony attached to releasing the Road So Far Socks on Father’s Day. The Winchester boys spend the majority of seasons 1-5 dealing with their unresolved daddy issues. The first season itself is literally about them hitting the road in search of their missing father. Which, and if we’re all being honest with ourselves, seasons 3-5 were the golden age of the show.

As much as I adore Supernatural, the show should’ve ended a couple of seasons ago. I’d rather have them go out on top instead of becoming more and more convoluted with the reversal of character growth just to keep it going. I’m looking at you season 10 finale. I don’t want one of my favorite shows to become a joke. If you haven’t taken the plunge yet, don’t let my criticism of where the series is heading prevent you from enjoying some fantastic television, specifically seasons 3-5.

Inspired by the iconic Impala of Supernatural, these socks will keep your toes safe and warm whether you’re out hunting a Werewolf or just sharing your feelings over a beer. The long, ruched stripe that runs from cuff to toe is knit with clever short rows. The combo of clean stockinette and ruched garter make these fun and quick knit.

You can get the Road So Far Socks pattern for free by clicking the buy now link below and entering the code: IMPALA at check out. This coupon code will expire one year and a day from today, at which point it will be $6.

A PDF will be emailed to you by Ravelry. You don’t need to be a Ravelry member to purchase the pattern, but if you are, the PDF will show up in your library.

For some people, the anti-possession tattoo is the most iconic piece of imagery from Supernatural, but we beg to differ. It’s the 1967 Chevrolet Impala, the most important object in the universe. And you can’t discuss the Impala without touching on its side story in “Swan Song,” the season five finale. The black and tan yarn symbolizes the Impala itself, the vehicle that was passed down from A young marine named John Winchester to his son Dean. The sparkly red splatters on the grey yarn represents the Winchesters’ lives on the road, hunting things as a family. Sam and Dean may not have had a roof and four walls, but they were never homeless. The car saved the world from the apocalypse, so we put a road down the center of the sock to represent the boys in the Impala doing what they do best: “Saving people, hunting things. Family Business, back in swing. Driving down the road so far.” You can pick up this Twinkle Toes set for yourself here.

I totally agree with you regarding the show’s season finale and that it should have wrapped up on top. I love the show and stopped watching it after season 7 only to be sucked in this past season. sigh.
Thank you for the terrific sock pattern, I can’t wait to cast on!
