The countdown has begun, there are only five days left until World Wide Knit in Public Day! Normally, Megan-Anne and I spend the afternoon at a cafe or coffee house knitting, but this year we’ll be at Woolbearers in Mount Holly, New Jersey. You can already find our line of Interlude Yarn there, but we’ll have a slew of other yarns there with us for the day. As a special bonus for Knit in Public Day, Megan-Anne will also be teaching two different double knitting classes:
DOUBLE KNITTING: Your two-sided Adventure Begins!
Double knitting is a magical technique that creates squishy, reversible fabric with no wrong side. While the finished projects look complex, the actual process is extremely simple. If you can knit and purl, you can double knit. Join Megan-Anne of Lattes & Llamas, an expert in the craft of double knitting, for a fun and relaxed class covering the basic foundations of double sided knitting. In this class you will learn to cast on, cast off, and follow a color chart for double knitting. Note that while we will execute a color chart like you would often see in fair-isles knitting, double knitting has no pesky stranding, resulting in perfectly even colorwork, even for beginners. This beginning technique requires that you are comfortable with the basic foundations of knitting, including knitting, purling, and simple ribbing (knit 1, purl 1). You do not need to have experience with color work. During the class you will make a double sided book mark. Dates: Saturday, June 9 from 10:30am to noon.ADVANCED DOUBLE KNITTING: For the Master Adventurer
Do you love the warmth, squishiness, and simplicity of double knitting, but wish you could do more with it? Leave pot holders behind and go on an exciting new quest of double knit opportunities! Join Megan-Anne of Lattes & Llamas, an expert in the craft of double knitting, in a fast paced class for double knitters that are ready to kick things up to the next level. In this class we will explore how to work increases, decreases, working in the round, and extreme double knitting in the round. Extreme double knitting is the process of adapting a color chart to read identically on both sides of your work. This is ideal for color work that incorporates letters or numbers. Advanced double knitting techniques require a firm foundation in double-knitting basics, and prior to class you should be comfortable with casting on, casting off, double knitting, and following a color chart in double knitting. During this class you will use the techniques we learn to begin a double knit earflap hat. The pattern will be provided. You will be customizing the color work during the class. Dates: Saturday, June 9 from 1pm to 4pm.
The classes are filling up fast, so if you’re interested call Myra at Woolbearers (609 914 0003) to reserve your spot.

Me, on the other hand, I’ll be somewhere else in the relative vicinity, sipping a coffee and crocheting. I know it’s World Wide KNIT in Public Day, but a girl has to represent her hookers, am I right? And besides, the first day of summer is coming up fast. I have a lot to do before the Summer of Crochet starts up again June 21st. Megan-Anne came up with a few ideas to make it bigger and better this year, which I’m pretty sure is mild payback from me conning her into knitting over 200 Geek-A-Long squares.
Side Note: We’ve gained a lot of newcomers over the years, and some of you may not be aware of how the Geek-A-Long actually got its start. Like most things, I had a great idea and then conned Megan-Anne into executing it with her sweet, sweet knitter skills with the bribe of a latte. She’s a cheap date. Although, I think that if she would’ve known we’d end up continuing the Geek-A-Long beyond that first year, she probably would’ve demanded more than a triple grande cinnamon dulce latte and that we send the completed blanket to Child’s Play Charity to be auctioned off at their yearly gala dinner.
So, if you’ll be in the Mount Holly area this Saturday and need someone to knit in public with, I’m there for you. But with a crochet hook.

Now I just have to figure our which WIP I’ll bring with me! What’ll you be working on and where this Saturday?
I won’t be at Woolbearers this WWKIP day, but next time I’m visiting the in-laws, I’ll be sure to stop by and say hi to your yarn!
