DRINK OVERPRICED COFFEE
Even though Emmet from The Lego Movie was into 37 dollar coffee and I have a known weakness for a well poured latte, we here at Lattes & Llamas don’t actually support spending that kind of money on one cup of joe. You leave that money for yarn!
For our throwback square this week, we’re returning to week 45 of 2014: Lego. Other than the obvious reasons why Lego is awesome and the perfect toy for children and adults to build motor skills, creativity, and problem-solving skills, I freaking love the Lego movies. For the original square, we wanted to pay homage to the traditional bricks. This time we wanted to immortalize Emmet with his 37 dollar cup of coffee. It just felt right.
And now, for a quick list of reasons why I love The Lego Movie:
- I like that Emmet is just an ordinary person who rises up to meet the challenge.
- Liam Neeson as Badcop/Goodcop was brilliant.
- It’s a high quality family movie that you’ll actually enjoy. It won’t make you want to gouge out your eyes like that horrible Angry Birds movie one of my nieces made me watch.
- Batman is at his battiest as the self-aware anti-hero, complete with his own theme song and bat puns.
- The not-so-subtle message to parents that they can escape the monotony of adulthood’s obligations to spend time with their children by playing with Legos. As someone who believes the world would be a better place if we all slowed down every now and then to knit, I 100% am into this message. Although, as a fiber enthusiast, I’d change “playing with legos” to “teaching them to knit/crochet.”
- The master builder meeting scene that brings together mini-figurines from long since retired Lego sets.
Whether you’re knitting, crocheting, or cross stitching this square, you can download the Lego Movie Revisited pattern here. Instructions and charts for both knit and crochet are listed in the pattern. When you’re finished making it, don’t forget to Instagram your squares at us @lattesandllamasyarn with the hashtag #geekalong!
If you’re having trouble with double-sided knitting, we have a how-to video here and a tutorial on crochet here. Want to hang out with other people making the blanket? You can find moral support in the Geek-A-Long group on Ravelry here.
