In an alternate universe where Peter Parker doesn’t get bitten by a radio active spider, Gwen Stacey becomes Spider-Woman. This is her hat. Actually, it’s inspired by her costume, which is amazing with its fresh and modern take. It’s so much more than just another girl wearing Spider-Man’s blue and red suit.
Reminiscent of Gwen Stacy’s webbed hoodie, the stitch pattern of the Gwen Slouchy Hat let’s everyone know you’re in charge. This hat says, “I’m not the superhero’s girlfriend. I am the superhero.” Also, and before you ask, the ribbing is not knitted. This hat is 100% crocheted. The brim is created with slip stitches and creates a super stretchy rib that makes this hat a one size fits most situation. This hat looks excellent on Megan-Anne’s normal sized lady head and some how still manages to fit my giant noggin. I’m not saying it’s sorcery, but I’m not NOT saying it’s sorcery either.
Spider-Gwen first appeared on the 2017 Superhero blanket. And, I’m still kind of salty that there wasn’t enough room on it to include the webbing in inside her hood. This hat makes me feel a little bit better about not being able to have it on her portrait.
I knew I wanted to crochet this hat since Megan-Anne and I designed Fandom Yarn and named our light pink yarn after Gwen Stacy’s superhero alter ego. And I’m delighted to get to share it with you know. The pink accent that makes up the webbing motif on the hat was satisfying to make. It already has me thinking about making gloves and a cowl to match.

Gwen Stacy isn’t Spider-Man’s girlfriend. Peter Parker is Spider-Woman’s boyfriend. Boom. Knowledge drop.
