Normally, we’d be announcing the winner of the June prize today, but TNNA seems to have put everyone behind schedule and our prize for the month hasn’t shown up yet. Luckily, Cascade Yarn has our backs! They sent over a giant box full of yarn just for you guys. Apparently, when Megan-Anne told them they only need to send one thing this year instead of four, they chuckled with a roll of their eyes and sent four anyway.
As you can see from the giant pile, we have four sweaters worth of yarn-y goodness to raffle off today along with actual sweater patterns. The first two kits are for the Traveling Buds Cardigan by Melissa Leapman, which come in Storm Blue and Hawthorne Rose. The worsted weight yarn comes from their Alpaca Lana D’Oro line. The 50/50 split of Alpaca and wool gives it the softness you want with the memory you need when it comes to garments.
The other two kits are both colorwork sweaters. The first is knitted with Cascade 220 Sport, which is the non-superwash version of the yarn that we used to create the 2015 GAL blanket. The pattern that goes with it is the Cropped Border Cardigan by Fiona Ellis shown below. It’s not exactly my cup of tea since it reminds me more of something one of my toddler nieces would wear than what a grown woman would, but who ever said no to free yarn. Amirite?
Last, but not least, is another sweater by Melissa Leapman. This one is called the “220 Superwash Women’s Fair Isle Pullover.” And, you guessed it, it’s knit with Cascade 220 Superwash, which was the same yarn we used for the first Geek-A-Long blanket. As far as I can tell, this pattern is not listed on Ravelry. BUT! Cascade does have it on their website as a free download, if you feel like you need to tackle some Fair Isles. This sweater was Megan-Anne’s favorite. She channeled her inner Slytherin and tried to convince me that no one would ever know if it “accidentally” fell into her grabby hands. Unfortunately for her, I’m half Gryffindor.
Alright, knitting nerds. This is the moment you’ve been waiting for! All you have to do is follow the three easy steps below and you might win one of four prizes.
- Knit or crochet a 2017 Geek-A-Long square from weeks 22-27 or the bonus GAL square provided as part of your GAL Guild subscription. You can find a comprehensive list HERE, which does not include week 27. It isn’t out yet.
- Go to the Geek-A-Long Ravelry group and share your square in the special 2017 Display Case Giveaway thread by 11:59 PM EST on July 5th, 2017. You may submit only one square, but your name will go into the hat twice if you used Lattes & Llamas Geek-A-Long Yarn to make it. Once a square is submitted it may not be used in another drawing.
- Come back to Lattes & Llamas blog on Friday, July 7th, to find out if you won!
If you’re a member of the Geek-A-Long Guild, your new bonus square is available for download now on the special members only page. Bummed you don’t have access? Never fear, GAL Guild subscriptions are opening up again soon.
Good Luck! And thank you, Cascade Yarn, your charitable donation to our Geek-A-Long participants. You can find Cascade Yarns on their website, Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.

Every test I’ve ever taken has split me down the middle between Gryffindor and Slytherin. In 2014, when we represented the Hogwarts houses on the GAL blanket, we took a test that breaks down your percentage of each house. You can find our in depth results HERE along with a link to the test.
