I’m completely obsessed with Steven Universe right now. That’s partially due to Mabel the Merciless being endlessly entertained by the theme song, but mostly because it’s an absolutely amazing show. It makes me laugh, it makes me cry, and especially over the last year it’s had a lot to say that I needed to hear.
In addition to giving me all of the feels, every time I watch an episode I think of another design I want to do. One of my resolutions for 2017 is to put out more of my designs. I have notebooks full of them, but regularly allow myself to get bogged down in other stuff instead of prioritizing them. I’m starting 2017 early with my favorite design from the Steven Universe collection. Based on Rose Quartz, I think it makes the perfect Holiday gift for yourself or a friend. It’s a one-size-fits-all accessory, and is a relaxing garter row project. It has a difficulty rating of confident-beginner, and if you have basic knitting skills you are good to go for this one. I loved our December MKAL, so decided to run this as a Mystery Knit-A-Long as well.
If you haven’t done an MKAL before, here’s how it works:
The pattern will be released as individual “clues” rather than all at once. You won’t know what you’re making, other than that it’s an accessory. The formatting will look a little different than what you’re used to seeing, since it is coming out in three installments. At the end of the KAL, when I release this pattern on Ravelry, it will be a paid pattern with our standard formatting. The KAL clues are free downloads, and I hope you get in on this with me. I’m really proud of this design, I think it’s probably my best all year.
I love to do prizes on MKALs, so for this one, the first person to post a pic of their finished project on the Ravelry thread gets a bonus Christmas present. I will stalk the winner like the creeper I am, and send them a present selected and wrapped by me. I don’t know what it is yet since I’m going to try to pick something I think they’ll like! :D
The clues will be released on:
Monday, December 5th
Monday, December 12th
Monday, December 19th
You will need the Rose Quartz Project Sheet to get started and the first clue is at the bottom of this post. Click the link to view and save the PDF. If you’re on a mobile device, the PDF will download automatically. It’s got all your usual project info (gauge, yarn, abbreviations, etc…). You’ll need 3 balls of contrasting fingering weight yarn. I used Vacation Yarn in Baskerville, Princess Bubblegum, and Alistaire. If you want a really posh project (and this is a pattern that totally deserves some extra lux yarn) Interlude or Masquerade are great choices. We have 3 color kits in Masquerade, if you want us to curate some colors for you.
We are still celebrating Giving Tuesday! If you decide to work your project in one of our yarns, and you enter the code TOGETHER at check out you will get 10% off of your order. More importantly, $1 for every skein sold until 11:59pm Tuesday 12/6 will be donated to Child’s Play Charity. When knitters give back, we all stay warm.
With no further ado, HERE is your first clue. And also one more song.

Let me drive my van into your heart.
Sounds like fun! Time to stash dive and see what I can come up with for this… :)
Interesting :)
What happened to the 2nd part?
Hi! The post is going up later today, but the clue is already available in the Lattes & Llamas Ravelry group.
