Cat Theater 6

Almost everyone in my family is sick right now. We’re spread out across the US, but somehow we all have managed to get the same nasty cold. And it’s not even the fun kind of sick where you get to hole up in your room with your knitting, some tea, and work through your Netflix queue. No, it’s the sort of cold where you take a nap at one in the afternoon and wake up the next day with an insatiable hunger for homemade chicken pot pie. But just the innards of the pot pie though. No, flaky crust. That might scratch your throat too much.

Needless to say, Megan-Anne and I have been missing from social media recently and things are falling a little bit behind… like my plans to share the cool things companies donated to the Geek-A-Long prize baskets. Our little sister, Alena, fell victim to the family cold curse too with golf ball sized tonsils. I’m not sure which one of us upset a gypsy, but I’m sorry. I’ll carry you up a mountain* if it means I can at least knit in bed without falling asleep for nearly 24 hours.

*Yes, this is a reference to Holes, just in case you were wondering.

Alena wanted me to tell you guys that she had something different planned for this weeks Cat Theater / Geek-A-Long webcomic spoiler, but between general life obligations and a Madame Zeroni’s curse, she felt lucky to finish this sketch. She says that she’s sorry and she’s hoping to get well soon, so she can put out something super cool and difficult to guess next week. Also, if you’re new to our corner of the interwebs and want to know why there is a cat webcomic on a yarny website, check out the first Cat Theater, but basically it’s a Geek-A-Long thing.

Alright my geek-loving friends, take your guesses over to the Geek-A-Long Ravelry group and join forces with other people to suss out who the superhero is. If no one figures it out by Friday, which I highly doubt since you guys are so clever, Megan-Anne will drop in with another spoiler.

~ ~ ~ Monday Flash Sale ~ ~ ~

The recommended colors for yesterday’s square, Gambit’s pocket full of aces, were Invisible Jet and Tesseract. This week we’re switching from a color named after Marvel’s containment vessel for an Infinity Stone to DC’s Bottle City.

Like most of the silly things from Superman’s Golden to Silver Age years, the Bottle City of Kandor doesn’t disappoint. Years before Krypton went kablooey, Brainiac shrank and stole its capitol city, Kandor. He put it in a nifty bell jar and cruised around the galaxy for a few years with 6 million tiny Kryptonians. Eventually, Superman found the Bottle City and took it to his Fortress of Solitude and added it to his memorabilia shelf. Kandor actually has a long weird history after switching collectors, and you can read more about here. Nevertheless, to pay homage to this weird comic book fact, we named our bright variegated red after it, especially since the Bottle City of Kandor had a cute tiny red sun in it.

You can snag the colors you’ll need for week six, “Invisible Jet” and “Bottle City,” for half off HERE until midnight tonight. As always, we will donate $1 to Child’s Play Charity every time you purchase a skein of Geek-A-Long Yarn, even if it’s on sale. It doesn’t matter if you plan to knit the week two square with it or if you buy enough of the hand-dyed yarn to knit a hat, we’ll support Child’s Play Charity.

Seriously though, Superman can get a little ssouvenir-mad. I’m not saying that he hits the same creepy levels as serial killers, but I’m also not not saying it either.
