Fangirl

The fact that I’m not using all caps right now, I think, is a small miracle. Really, I’m showing a lot of restraint. (You’re welcome.) Because what I’d like to do looks a little something like this:

DID YOU KNOW THERE IS A VERONICA MARS AUDIO BOOK?

Now, imagine me typing an entire post in huge bold letters. It’s what I want to do since I just finished Veronica Mars: The Thousand-Dollar Tan Line, but I won’t. I mean, Kristen Bell read it to me and it was like I was transported to a long time ago when we used to be friends*, but I’ll try to keep my fangirling to a dull roar.

*For those of you who lived under a rock between 2004-2007, I’m referencing the opening theme song. I’m not one of those crazy people that think I’m friends with celebrities I’ve never met. I don’t know who started that vicious rumor, but my boyfriend, Dean Winchester, is furious.

This all started a few days ago when I came to terms with how I positively HATE doing garter rows in the round, especially when the garter ridges are done in alternating colors. I ditched the hand warmer project and whipped out Judith Durant’s brand new book, Cable Left, Cable Right: 94 Knitted Cables, in search of inspiration.

In case you love knitting garter ridges in the round with alternating colors, the Prism Mitts pattern by Cloud House Studio is awfully cute and available on Ravelry for free. I had planned to knit mine in Slytherin house colors using Vacation Yarn mini-skeins, but now I’m thinking of knitting a cabled cowl.

At least, that was the plan anyway.

My family is slightly obsessed with Steven Universe. It’s fantastic. The art. The music. The storytelling. Since Megan-Anne and I have been away on business a lot lately, our collective dvr’s stored up a bunch of episodes. We ended up watching a whole bunch of it the other day and then Megan-Anne and I accidentally designed an entire book’s worth of Crystal Gems inspired patterns.

We put together the first pattern, the Rose Quart Shawl, using Vacation Yarn in Princess Bubblegum, Baskerville, and Alastair. Since Megan-Anne is still working on Drachenfels by Melanie Berg, I called dibs on knitting the sample. It’s been awesome so far. It turns out that I’m totally okay with alternating garter ridges in contrasting colors as long as they’re done flat.

Then, the other night, when my husband had to work second shift and there was nothing on TV, I cruised around for an audio book to listen to while I worked on Rose Quartz. Amazon, that creepy stalker, was like:

“Hey, remember that one time you wanted to buy the Veronica Mars movie, but your husband admitted that he got it for you for Christmas? And then you looked at a whole bunch of Veronica Mars swag instead and got irrationaly angry because you couldn’t buy a Veronica Mars Pop figurine? Yeah, we remembered. Want to listen to the V-Mars audio book?”

Then, I screamed yes and immediately started to listen to it.

The book picks up a couple of months after the event of the movie, and it did a good job of jogging my memory when encountering old places and people from the series. It was like I was watching a new episode in the best kind of way. The only criticism I have is that it was written in 3rd person instead of 1st. Considering it was read by Kristen Bell, the difference in point of view was jarring at first. Although the further I got into it, the less it bothered me. By the time shit was going down 3.5 hours into it, I didn’t even notice. Although that could’ve been because of the huge thing that happened and made me call my husband at work to yell about a certain character.

I just finished listening to it and I’m already downloading the second book. YES, THERE ARE TWO BOOKS. MARSHMALLOWS, DOWNLOAD THEM NOW SO THEY’LL WRITE MORE. ROB THOMAS SAYS THEY ARE CANNON. IF THEY MAKE MORE V-MARS, IT IS CANNON.

Whew. Okay. Caps lock button got stuck there for a minute. Anyway, yeah. So, there you have it. I’m gonna go listen to the next book now and knit my shawl some more. You should totally read/listen to the first one too. Be cool, soda pops!

Although, I think my frequency of caps lock was pretty low key for a fangirl.
