SilverSpun Wrap Bracelet

Ask my husband and he’ll tell you that other than my wedding ring, I don’t wear jewelry.  However, I’m beginning to suspect that I just don’t wear fancy jewelry. While I love my Grandma Betty pearls and the diamond earring/necklace set from Grandma Karen, I don’t have much occasion to wear it. I’m not Bree Van de Kamp, who enjoys pairing a sensible cardigan with a string of pearls just to go to the grocery.

But, it turns out that I freaking LOVE wrap bracelets.

I know. I know. Wrap bracelets are so trendy right now. But after Megan-Anne informed me that she needed one before she left for California or else she might perish, I crocheted one for her and found myself in love with it. So much so, that I made a second one for myself.

Megan-Anne Llama and SilverSpun Bracelet

A couple of weeks ago, we received a skein of SilverSpun Yarn in the mail from The Feel Good Yarn Company to try it out. We immediately knew what we wanted to design with it (more on that later in the week), but after those yards were siphoned off, we had more than enough left for my wrap bracelet project. I was also able to use the beads leftover from one of Megan-Anne’s knitshameful ventures and the only thing I had to pickup from the craft store was a clasp.

Honestly, it took longer to string the beads and make sure I had the correct number of chains than it did to actually crochet the wrap bracelet. From start to finish, it took less than two episodes of Arrow to make both of them.

Yes, I count time spent on a project with episodes of television. Don’t judge me.

You’ll probably hear more about this when Megan-Ann posts from sunny California about her SilverSpun project on Friday, but the yarn itself is surprisingly soft for cotton. Maybe it’s the 2% lycra? However, I can say with 100% certainty that this is the softest cotton yarn I’ve ever had the pleasure of rubbing all over my face. It’s lightweight and springy, which is perfect for a wrap bracelet. And the 11% real Silver doesn’t hurt the glam factor either. ::eyebrow wiggle::

The ease and simplicity of this project has me wondering if there are other types of jewelry I could conquer and grow to love through crochet. If you would’ve asked me last week if I liked bracelets, I would’ve said absolutely not, but now it turns out I can’t get enough of my wrap bracelet. My fellow yarn and caffeine addicts, do you have any crochet/knit jewelry suggestions for me?

~ Jac
From now on, all of the yarn I work with must contain real silver. How else will I gain the attentions of Oliver McQueen?
