2017 Geek-A-Long: Storm

I realize, obviously, that we’ve already honored X-men. They’ve shown up on every blanket except for 2016 (here, here, and here). I’m not even remotely sorry that you are seeing so much of them. They are the best. I’ve brought it up before, but have you watched X-Men: Evolution yet? I was SO into that show. I wish it would get a reboot.

And as long as I’m busy not apologizing for…

Indie Knit and Spin Show Report

Over the weekend, Megan-Anne and I packed up my sedan and headed over to Pittsburgh for Indie Knit and Spin. We actually just got back today, which is why this post is going up so late. It was our first time attending to peddle our squishy hand-dyed yarns, and we had a blast! The show was small, quirky, and full of cool like-minded people. It was a great way to kick off the show season and we’re excited to be heading back to it again in the fall.

We debuted new colorways for our Adventure and

2017 Geek-A-Long: Black Widow

I love the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Black Widow. I didn’t really have much experience with her before the Avengers movies, but since my introduction to her awesomeness, I’ve been hooked.

Black Widow has been everything a superhero could be. Hero, villain, clone, blond. She began as a soviet spy and eventually became one of the main Avengers. The only thing she hasn’t been is star of her own movie which is redonkulous.

My favorite Black Widow story is Secret Avengers 20. The Secret Avengers get…

Geek-A-Long News: GAL Guild

Can you hear that? No, not the birds chirping on this ridiculously nice day in February, but the sound my squees reverberating out across the nation. The GAL Guild is open for enrollment again!

Megan-Anne and I had so much fun cultivating the special gifts we tucked into the boxes we sent out. The GAL Guild members for weeks 1-12 received a Geek-A-Long tote along, Escape Yarn, and one of our sock patterns with their exclusive Geek-A-Long square pattern. We have our eyes on even sweeter swag for those of you who sign up for weeks…

2016 Geek-A-Long Winners

Last year, we used the my niece’s baby feet like a claw machine to pick the names out of a hat. Now that she’s a year old, we thought we’d let her use her little grabby hands, but Megan-Anne’s little angel is more of a screaming terror these days now that she’s cutting molars. So, we took the path of least resistance and let a random generator do the work. In our book, all of the Geek-A-Long participants are winners. Unfortunately, there can be only one winner in each of the four categories. But before we announce…

Cat Theater 2

Welcome to Cat Theater! Drawn by our little sister and Lattes & Llamas’s lab assistant Alena, this cheeky webcomic is your first clue to guess which superhero will be featured on this coming Sunday’s Geek-A-Long square. The second clue is down at the bottom in the form of our Monday Flash Sale, where you can get our hand-dyed beauties at half the retail price. Alright, let’s see what our resident theatrical kittens, Gambit and Wesley, are performing this week!

Take your guesses over to the Geek-A-Long Ravelry group and…

Bigger, Bolder, Super-er

Every year in December, Jac and I get anxious about the next year’s Geek-A-Long. I’m not exaggerating when I say that both of us have lost sleep every single year over whether or not we are making the right calls. This year, however, has been next level stressful. This year, we are betting the llama farm* on you guys. And as scary as it’s been to prep for, we are all in.

To date, the Geek-A-Long community has raised just over $6000 for Child’s Play Charity.

I think we can agree that’s…

2016 Geek-A-Long: Yoshi’s Wooly World

43-yoshi-2

I know you didn’t think there was a possibility we were going to let the Geek-A-Long video game blanket end without Yoshi’s Wooly World! A few weeks ago I told you about Little Big Planet and all the tributes you can find to it on Ravelry. Those are NOTHING compared to all the Yoshi projects you can get your hands on! This is the point where I usually talk about the game, but the name pretty much sums it up. It’s Yoshi, and yarn, and it’s available where ever…

2016 Geek-A-Long: Halo

34 Halo 3

“When I joined the Corps, we didn’t have any fancy-schmanzy tanks. We had sticks! Two sticks, and a rock for the whole platoon—and we had to share the rock!”-Sergeant Johnson

I am not the target audience for Halo. That’s OK. I respect all of our brotato chips out there. The A-bro-ham Lincolns of this world. The Brofessors of Broganic Chemistry. Brocheters and Knitbros alike. So this week we are honoring Halo, a sci-fi first person shooter, even…

2016 Geek-A-Long: Myst

33 Myst 3

If you know me in real life or if you’ve been following us since 2014, you’ll know that as a kid I didn’t exactly have my finger on the pulse of popular culture. I was that sort of funny-in-retrospect nerd that would defend claiming a fictional character as my best friend to my dying breath. Honestly, that I’m about to tell you how in love I was with a book that was about popular culture and NOT at least 50 years older than me is the real…
