The Summer of Crochet: Octi the Fancy

Before I talk about this dapper little dude pictured above or finally launch the Summer of Crochet, I wanted to say thank you for the outpour of support in response to my post last Saturday, Fairy Tales and the May Prize Winner. Your kind and understanding words — and not to mention seeing my life flashing before my eyes — helped me come to terms with some things and find the joy of knitting again. Or, I should say, the joy of crochet!

This week, I…

2017 Geek-A-Long: Deadpool

It’s been a crazy 24 hours. Jac and our little sister, Alena, got in a car accident yesterday. Everyone one is OK, but the car is messed up and they are still shook up by it. We had planned on being at TNNA next Sunday, but since the car we would have driven there is just this side of totaled, we aren’t sure if we’ll still make the trip.

Jac hit her cheekbone on the steering wheel. Luckily, she had been looking at Alena when the woman slammed into them and pushed them through the intersection into another car, or…

Fairy Tales and the May Prize Winner

Have you ever gotten an email from your tech guy full of acronyms that you didn’t understand and then spent an agonizing couple of hours Googling the terms only to find yourself more confused than when you started? No, just me then?

Here’s the thing, I’ve always been a fast learner, someone who can pick up new skills with relative ease. As it turns out, my Jac-of-Many-Trades ability stops at fixing the back end of our website. Hopefully, Jed was able to fix the troubles I wrought. But, this is the lead up to a larger apology…

Some of you have…

2017 Geek-A-Long: Ghost Rider

I don’t have a long-standing, emotional relationship with Ghost Rider. I like things that contain Nick Cage, but that’s pretty much the only exposure I’ve had to Ghost Rider before he showed up on Agents of SHIELD. So I called in a ringer this week, the fabulous Mr. Llama, to give Ghost Rider the fanboy love he deserves. See you next week!

Ghost Rider is awesome. His head is…

Dragonologist Shawl

I don’t know if you know this about us here at Lattes & Llamas, but we’re giant nerds. Complete shocker, right? When Megan-Anne set out to make a limited edition colorway for spring, she wanted it to have greens and blues and yellows. There are even hints of pink and red. Now, normal people would look at this color and call it something like “Spring Meadow”, but not us. We’re cooking up a special event for this October, so we have Dungeons & Dragons on the brain right now. Hence…

Versicolored Cowl

It’s no secret that I used to have an aversion to cotton yarn, which you can read all about here. Basically, I was like one of those people that refuse to touch acrylic yarn and claim all of it is scratchy, because their only interaction with it was Red Heart Super Saver. For years, people would claim that I just didn’t know good cotton, and they were right. It turns out that pima cotton is where its at!

What’s the difference between pima and that other stuff? Ever go…

2017 Geek-A-Long: Storm

I realize, obviously, that we’ve already honored X-men. They’ve shown up on every blanket except for 2016 (here, here, and here). I’m not even remotely sorry that you are seeing so much of them. They are the best. I’ve brought it up before, but have you watched X-Men: Evolution yet? I was SO into that show. I wish it would get a reboot.

And as long as I’m busy not apologizing for…

2016 GAL Prize Webs Valley Yarns (1)

I learned a couple things this morning. Number one, I hate listening to recordings of my voice, especially when I have a stuffy nose from seasonal allergies. Number two, I rarely see my sister — Megan-Anne, the other half of Lattes & Llamas — even though we run a business together! After we returned from back to back yarn festivals, she started catching up on all the dying while I’ve been relegated to answering emails, tagging, and shipping. We kept making plans to have…

It’s dangerous to go alone

Our love of all things Zelda is probably not news to anyone. It featured on both the 2014 and 2016 blankets. If you click the 2014 link, you can read about my introduction to the franchise and check out one of my earliest Zelda inspired knits. So it wasn’t really a stretch when we chose the Zelda franchise as our inspiration for the limited edition March colorway, Hyrule. The hand dyed silver and green yarn is available on our Geek-A-Long sport weight Merino blend.
