L&L Book Club: Austenland

I’ve been having trouble writing this post this week. It seems selfish to lose myself in a fun silly book, when terrible things are happening here and abroad. I live a sheltered life. It’s pretty much just me, my yarn, and Mabel the Merciless all day. I watch more Sesame Street than CNN. I get on Facebook, but not all day long, usually just once or twice, and some days I don’t go on it at all. I’m out of touch with the outside world most days. The outside world is basically a dumpster fire right…

L&L Book Club and the Shining Sequence Mittens

I took a two week hiatus from book club. It was partially because I was recovering from a nasty cold and partially because I’ve had so much exciting L&L stuff to get ready for that I forgot totally remembered, but didn’t post due to very important reasons. ;)

But I’m back, at least 80% less sneezy, 20% cooler, and chomping at the literary bit! Before we jump into this week’s book, I have a few bookkeeping announcements:

Subscriptions for the Society of Caffeinated Knitters (SoCK club) -and- the GAL guild are open for membership. This…

Jane Austen and a Bonus Duplicate Stitch Tutorial

The Shining Sequence MKAL is more than half way done! Despite an error in the title of yesterday’s clue update (it was marked clues 1&2, when it was actually 1-3) things have gone smoothly. I feel like maybe I shouldn’t say that out loud. I don’t want to tempt the universe. I guess, if all your beads start exploding or something, you can blame this right here.

The Book

This week I’m readingĀ Jane and the Twelve Days of Christmas. It’s amazeballs. A. Maze. BALLS. It’s like Clue and Downton Abbey had…

L&L Book Club: Matched

I know it’s only Wednesday, but man does it feel like this week has disappeared on me. Yesterday morning I was thinking about a project that I need to do before a baby shower on July 9th. And I thought, meh, I have tons of time. It’ll be quick, I have all of this and next week. Tonight, I’m all:

Holy cast on, Batman! I need this next weekend to knit, and I haven’t even wound the yarn yet!

It’s that big pile of turquoise on the right. Sure, Megan-Anne, you’ve got pleeeeeeeenty of time. ;)

So it’s good that I went…

Book Club: The Handmaid’s Tale Pt. 2

I had mentioned last week that I’d do Matched for this week’s book club. But now that I’ve finished The Handmaid’s Tale (both book and show), it turns out there is just a lot more to discuss. So I’ll do Matched next week. I’ve started it and the jury is still out on it, but it’s got potential. So more on that next week.

Book Club: The Handmaid’s Tale

Welcome to the second installment of Book Club! If you don’t know what I’m talking about, you can check out the introduction post here.

The Book

This week I failed the city and didn’t finish my book club book. I’ll finish it before I start next week’s book, but this is not an easy listen. I got obsessed with watching the Hulu series of The Handmaid’s Tale. It’s amazing. Obviously this review is based on not yet finishing either one, but I think the show handles material from…

Book Club: The Codex Alera

I mentioned in the Ravelry Group that I’m starting our very own fiber enthusiast book club. And now I am actually doing that. Considering my coffee maker broke a couple of day ago and I haven’t had a chance to replace it yet because of Jac’s car accident, I think this is some pretty high-level follow through. So here is how this will work: I, and any of you that want in on the fun, will read/listen to a book and knit/crochet some stuff each week. I love to listen to…
