SOCK Club: Psych

With Megan-Anne and I gearing up to mail out the next installment of the Society of Caffeinated Knitters (SOCK Club) at the end of October — I’m in love with the Pie stitch marker, but you didn’t hear that from me — we thought it was time to reveal the theme we had chosen for August. PSYCH!

No, seriously. I’m not pulling your leg. That was the theme.

If you’re…

2017 Geek-A-Long: Starfire

Starfire was in line to rule the planet of Tamaran as its queen until her sister, Blackfire, did a bunch of stuff that resulted in her enslavement and eventual need to flee to the nearest planet. It was bummer for her, but pretty great for Earth. She met Robin and joined him in forming the Teen Titans.

I don’t know much about Starfire outside of the Teen Titans cartoon….

National Coffee Day Giveaway

Rejoice, fellow caffeine enthusiasts! Today is National Coffee Day — or, as I like to call it, FREE COFFEE DAY. My husband manages this mythical place on the East Coast of the USA called Wawa. They’re more than just a convenience store/fuel station, they’re the place where the good affordable coffee lives. And I can order from the deli and get my sandwich without every having to converse with a single person due to the touch screens, which is a huge selling point when Megan-Anne and I have…

Call for Testers: Linvilla Pullover Pint-Sized

Hiya, knitters! I’m here to interrupt your regularly scheduled Thursday with a call for testers. I know, you’re devastated. How dare I help you get one step closer to the weekend with a brilliant distraction. I apologize for inconveniencing all of the boring work things you had planned. What can I say, I’m an enabler.

The inappropriate nose-picker you see above, also known as Megan-Anne’s little photo spoiling daughter Mabel, wants you to knit a super cool Linvilla Pullover for your favorite pint-sized person. Actually, she probably doesn’t since she likes to be “The Special,” but that’s besides the point….

Mock Apple Pie Cowl

September is a difficult month for planning outfits. When I drop off my husband at work in the morning, it’s 50 degrees, I can see my breath, and the butt-warmer in my car is set to high. When I drop off packages at the post office in the afternoon, it’s 80 degrees outside and I have the air conditioner set to full arctic-blast. If you’re my mother, your suggestion would be to wear layers, specifically a light cardigan. That’s nice in theory until you take it off at your sister’s…

2017 Geek-A-Long: Artemis

Planning and executing the Geek-A-Long requires a lot of planning. The day after we launch the first square of the year, we have a planning meeting and bounce ideas off each other to decide what the theme will be next year. We brainstorm and deliberate most of spring and then spend the summer arguing over which fandoms we’ll commemorate in yarn. Once that’s done we pick a yarn and a color palette. I make a spreadsheet with the it broken down by week with the date, fandom, the colors, and who’s writing the post. There are also check boxes…

Conquering Christmas Knitting Part 2

Howdy, knitters and crocheters! Are you ready to get serious about finishing those Christmas gifts in time to actually give them to their recipients instead of a card with a sad IOU in it? If you answered yes, this post is for you. Today, I’m going to talk about the importance of making time for “selfish” knitting instead of spending the next 100 days focused on everyone, who isn’t you.

If you answered with a terrified enghh sound and are freaking out that there are exactly 100 days left until Christmas and 88 until the first day of Hanukkah, I need you…

Conquering Christmas Knitting Part 1

I’m not embarrassed to admit that since Starbucks let me have access to Pumpkin Spice Lattes again on September first, I’ve had four. My husband would be horrified if he found out. But I’m not sorry. Every time I sip one, I think about Thanksgiving with my Grandma when I was little and her trying not to laugh as I gave short lectures on the right whipped cream to pumpkin pie ratio.

The answer is equal parts, of course. Don’t be ignorant.

I love the fall. I love sweaters and thick socks, changing leaves, and apple picking. I got married in…

2017 Geek-A-Long: Aquaman

Before Jason Momoa put on the Aquaman uniform and made millions of women and men suddenly thirst for the King of the Seven Seas, no one took him seriously.

Even though Aquaman is a founding member of the Justice League, he is the probably the most ridiculed superhero out there due to the nature of his powers, but I’m here to set you straight.

HE DOESN’T TALK TO FISH

At least, not anymore. When he debuted all the way back in November of 1941, Arthur…

The Summer of Crochet: Sharkington Junior

Shark Week might’ve come and went, but that doesn’t mean you can’t live every week like it’s Shark Week. Whether that means you treat life like an adventure and take advantage of every opportunity, live as if you’re about to be eaten, or rewatch 30 Rock again, we can all agree that we miss our weekly dose of Liz Lemon and we should embrace our healthy fears. Take risks and strive to live closer to the edge.

I’ve found that many crafters, whether they be knitters, crocheters, or…
