2017 Geek-A-Long: Captain America

Knock. Knock.

Who’s there?

FREEDOM.

In case you’ve been underneath a rock since Captain America: The First Avenger released in 2011, here is the low down on Cap’s three titled movies:

Steve Rogers, just another kid from Brooklyn, becomes a real hero instead of just a walking propaganda poster in order to save his best friend Bucky.

The Winter Soldier:
Captain America, a newly unfrozen and sexy all-American man, says…

2017 Geek-A-Long Giveaway: WEBS

Woohooo, it’s the first Geek-A-Long Giveaway of the year! Normally, we like to horde a bunch of prizes until the end and raffle them off to the three lucky winners for completing their GAL blankets on time, but we’re changing things up for 2017. You might’ve read the announcement about it on Monday. We don’t have room to store your goodies anymore. Instead, on the second Friday of every month, we’ll share a prize one of our benefactors sent to us along with three simple steps you need to follow in order to win.

I know what you’re…

Yarn Content Aversions

Everyone has their weird ticks. My mother can’t stand the sound of a spoon hitting the side of a bowl. Megan-Anne becomes irrationally angry at people who slurp their food and my husband can’t wear anything other than pajama pants in the house. Like, when he gets home from work, you can’t even say hi to him until he has on his stretchy pants. Me, I hate the feel of cotton yarn and velvet. I don’t know why, but those textures make my skin crawl. My niece, Mabel the Merciless, has this velvet dress some evil person…

Geek-A-Long News: Giveaway Time

Hiya, knitting nerds! It’s time to talk prizes. Every year we gather up a horde of yarn and knitting accessories to give away to three lucky Geek-A-Long participants that managed to finish their blankets by the end of the year. See also the 2014, 2015, and 2016 winners. For 2017, however, we’re handling it differently.

Lattes & Llamas is quickly outgrowing its studio space in Megan-Anne’s walkout basement. We had refinished half of it to suit our needs and have now taken over every inch of it. Her husband likes to joke that one day he’s…

2017 Geek-A-Long: Zatanna

Okay, here’s the thing. I came to comic books late in life. Despite my current squishy appearance, I lived an active childhood that had me outside climbing trees from dawn until dusk. There was this humongous mulberry tree behind our house that grew out of the hill, and I was obsessed with it. I spent most of childhood climbing around in its branches, eating berries, and making up stories about me and my friends living in a network of tree houses like the Swiss Family Robinson

Indie Knit and Spin Show Report

Over the weekend, Megan-Anne and I packed up my sedan and headed over to Pittsburgh for Indie Knit and Spin. We actually just got back today, which is why this post is going up so late. It was our first time attending to peddle our squishy hand-dyed yarns, and we had a blast! The show was small, quirky, and full of cool like-minded people. It was a great way to kick off the show season and we’re excited to be heading back to it again in the fall.

We debuted new colorways for our Adventure and

Geek-A-Long News: GAL Guild

Can you hear that? No, not the birds chirping on this ridiculously nice day in February, but the sound my squees reverberating out across the nation. The GAL Guild is open for enrollment again!

Megan-Anne and I had so much fun cultivating the special gifts we tucked into the boxes we sent out. The GAL Guild members for weeks 1-12 received a Geek-A-Long tote along, Escape Yarn, and one of our sock patterns with their exclusive Geek-A-Long square pattern. We have our eyes on even sweeter swag for those of you who sign up for weeks…

2017 Geek-A-Long: Cyborg

Three cheers for Cyborg! He’s basically the personification of every teenager’s “Let me live my own life, Mom/Dad!” issues. As someone who was fast tracked to take over the family business and ran away to pursue a writing career and live a life of yarn, I relate to him more than is probably appropriate for a 32 year-old-woman. Victor Stone, the son of two scientists, never feels as if he’s good enough for his parents. Running on the New 52 version and Young Justice, Vic’s parents never come to his…

2016 Geek-A-Long Winners

Last year, we used the my niece’s baby feet like a claw machine to pick the names out of a hat. Now that she’s a year old, we thought we’d let her use her little grabby hands, but Megan-Anne’s little angel is more of a screaming terror these days now that she’s cutting molars. So, we took the path of least resistance and let a random generator do the work. In our book, all of the Geek-A-Long participants are winners. Unfortunately, there can be only one winner in each of the four categories. But before we announce…

Valentines Day Sale

As someone who struggles with seasonal affective disorder, this time of year is always difficult for me. I eat my Vitamin D chewies and try to think wistful thoughts of long walks on sunny beaches. No matter how hard I try though, I can get a little dark and mopey. But there’s something about the arrival of Valentine’s Day that perks me up. It means I’m only a month away from my birthday, the return of the spring, and new yarn colors. To celebrate this shining day of love, we’re expanding our…
