Camp Wannaknit: Jughead

Come cozy up next to this metaphysical campfire with me and let me tell you a scary story about finishing work. I’ve been thinking about “scary stories” a lot this week since it’s the current Camp Wannaknit Instagram prompt that can snag you some free yarn. Get the details here. I’ve read stories people shared about the horrors of “yarn barf” and playing chicken. For me though, finishing work is a nightmare in and of itself. There’s something about it that sends shivers down my spine. Academically, I know it’s because I’m anxious to get to the part where I get to actually enjoy the finished product or start knitting the next great thing, but it always catches me off guard. It’s like jumping at the jump scare you know is coming. Of Course, the murderer is standing right behind the door. OF COURSE, I finch like a baby girl anyway.

Things were different this time though. I actually relished the idea of closing the top of my Jughead hat. The design turned out just how I imagined it would, and the details, including weaving in the ends and blocking, felt like delicious icing on the cake instead of screeching background music to let me know to be afraid. I promised to make this for a good friend AGES ago, she’s a die-hard Archie Comics fan, and I’m happy to be able to share it with you now for Camp Wannaknit.

Have no idea what Camp Wannaknit is? Check out this blog post. It’ll tell you everything you need to know, including more information on our summer-long yarn-y giveaways.

Can you tell how excited she is to finally have a Jughead hat?

Cozy is the head that wears the crown.

Honoring the great Jughead Jones, the peaks of brioche chevrons around the brim of the Jughead Hat create a subtle crown. You know you were born to reign; you need a hat that let’s everyone else in on your royal secret. You can get the Jughead pattern for 48% off during the next 48 hours, no coupon code needed!

A PDF will be emailed to you by Ravelry. You don’t need to be a Ravelry member to purchase the pattern, but if you are, the PDF will show up in your library.

This hat is deceptively simple and becomes a meditative knit. If you’ve done any brioche at all before, you’ll be fine. The crown is just chevron’s made from basic brioche increases and decreases. You can totally do it! Knit on, my friends!

Also, just so you’re aware, I’m currently getting drunk with my in-laws in a real life cabin in the woods. There is a hot tub, which is about as close as I get to camping other than the virtual camping we’re doing now for Camp Wannaknit.

“Megan-Anne, we’re gonna go hiking tomorrow! Won’t that be fun.”

Me clutching my knitting bag, “You mean, outside?”

Them, confused: “Yes?”

Thus began the get-everyone-drunk-so-I-can-play-the-hung-over-card-in-the-morning con.
