Homespun Yarn Party 2017

No joke, the Homespun Yarn Party is our favorite show of the year. Some people live for Rhinebeck, Vogue Knitting Live, or Maryland Sheep and Wool, which are all great events, but for us it’s the HYP. Held at the Historic Savage Mill in Maryland, which is great place to peruse even when it isn’t teeming with knitters and yarn, the HYP has an electric energy. Everyone is so excited to share their love of knitting, crochet, and spinning. Plus, the entry fee is free and so are the classes!

This year there was a line to get into the party for most of the afternoon. It was crazy. But I have to admit that I don’t blame them. The HYP is worth waiting to get into. Plus, it’a a great time of year for yarn shopping. All of our Christmas I-O-U’s have either been knitted or abandoned by now and we’re ready for selfish knitting. Plus, many yarn purveyors add new colorways in the spring. I know we did!

We debuted new color on most of our bases, including the speckles on our Adventure Yarn shown above. Big Damn Hero! Cat Thor! I solemnly swear! (I’m super excited about it if you haven’t noticed.) Those hand-dyed beauties won’t be available online until later tomorrow, but Crossroads and Interlude Yarn were updated this morning.

Crossroads Yarn from top to bottom: But First, Coffee; Hep Alien; Aslan; Rogue; RIP Severus; Fillory; Stars Hollow; Mage.

A personal note on the colorway RIP Severus:

ME: You can’t name it that. You’re going to make them cry.

MEGAN-ANNE: They’ll be fine. ::gins menacingly::

ME: ::tries not to show fear:: Fine. But I’m telling everyone you did this.

Interlude Yarn: Call Your Mom; Little Princess; Secret Garden; Palpatine.

Megan-Anne already pulled a skein of “Call Your Mom” and caked it to knit a sample. On the drive down to Maryland, she started working on a shawl for Mother’s Day. It seemed only right.

If you live in the Pittsburgh area and are bummed that you missed us, we’ll be back at it again this weekend for PGH Knit & Crochet Festival at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center. We had a blast there last year, which you can read about here. We’ll have our new colorways with us along with some brand new ombre fingering weight yarn that I’m not supposed to tell anyone about.

Ooops!

Advanced registration is closed, but you can still snag tickets at the door. Last time I counted, there were over 70 vendors and a few of my favorites are returning, like StarKnits. I freaking adore her project bags. Megan-Anne is addicted to them. Every time we run into her at a show she buys one.

For those of you not in the Pittsburgh area, here is your week 13 Geek-A-Long spoiler below. Think you know who the superhero will be? Head over to the Ravelry group to share your guesses!

~ ~ ~ Monday Flash Sale ~ ~ ~

The recommended colors for yesterday’s square, Kid Flash, were Invisible Jet and Deepsea Speedo. You can snag the colors you’ll need for week thirteen, Invisible Jet and Skull Cave, for half off HERE until midnight tonight. As always, we will donate $1 to Child’s Play Charity every time you purchase a skein of Geek-A-Long Yarn, even if it’s on sale. It doesn’t matter if you plan to knit the week thirteen square with it or if you buy enough of the hand-dyed yarn to knit a cardigan, we’ll support Child’s Play Charity.

~ Jac

Pro Tip: The first ten people to buy two skeins of yarn from us at PGH Knit and Crochet on Sunday will get a free project bag!

That looks like fun! I hear about so many yarn shows… but they’re all on the East Coast. The only West Coast one I know about is Stitches West. Alas. And yet… my credit cards are glad I only know about one yarn show. ;-)

I was at the Pgh K&C and it was nice putting a face/person to the blog! I didn’t buy anything today but saw a few things I want so I probably will be ordering!
