Cat Theater 7

It’s hard to believe that we’re already on week 7 of the 2017 Geek-A-Long and that we just mailed out the second box full of goodies and hand-dyed beauties to our GAL Guild members. For the longest time, Megan-Anne and I had been talking about what we’d put in those packages and now they’re arriving at peoples homes as I’m typing this. It’s all very surreal, and now we’re about to open up sign-ups again on February 20th. To be honest, it still doesn’t feel real that you guys are helping us raise more money than ever for Child’s Play Charity. I mean, I’m glad you love the yarn too, but mostly… Thank you for helping us make a difference in the lives of sick children!

::wipes away tears:: Ahem.

So.

Spoilers and stuff.

DISCLAIMER FOR NEWBIES: Yes, that is cat webcomic on a yarny website. This is your hint as to which superhero will be featured on the week 7 Geek-A-Long square, which debuts this Sunday. Head over to the Geek-A-Long Ravelry group and join forces with other like-minded geeks to suss out which superhero our cats, Gambit and Wesley, are paying homage to this time.

The recommended colors for yesterday’s square, Shazam, were Invisible Jet and Bottle City. This week we’re switching from a color named after DC’s Bottle City of Kandor to the Magic Item. Usually, I like to get into a little comic book history behind the namesakes of our Geek-A-Long Yarn when I introduce one we haven’t used yet, but there isn’t much to say about Magic Item. We didn’t name the color after something from the Marvel or DC world. The colorway reminded us of a dirty coin that you clean and discover is a gold doubloon from a pile of pirate treasure that just so happens to be cursed or maybe an ancient lamp you polish only to release a genie. Also, let’s be honest, there’s always some sort of magic item floating around superhero or generally geeky universes: Dr. Fate’s helmet, Nico Minoru’s staff, Talisman’s Coronet of Enchantment.

You can snag the colors you’ll need for week seven, Invisible Jet and Magic Item, for half off HERE until midnight tonight. As always, we will donate $1 to Child’s Play Charity every time you purchase a skein of Geek-A-Long Yarn, even if it’s on sale. It doesn’t matter if you plan to knit the week seven square with it or if you buy enough of the hand-dyed yarn to knit a cardigan, we’ll support Child’s Play Charity.

Magic Item almost didn’t make it into our list in its current form. Megan-Anne and I had a disagreement about the colorway. One of us absolutely hated it and the other couldn’t live without it. And I’ll admit, that the color has grown on me considerably since I stomped my feet and said it looked like dirty pirate treasure. I’m pretty sure that particular description hadn’t helped my case and our tiebreaker, Alena, voted in line with Megan-Anne.
